RIM needs to fix this

Ok Im still a rookie to these BB's seeeing as how I have come from a long line of WIN MO devices and an IPHONE i love my storm curve 8830 and tried the tour but why does a battery pull take so long to reboot? Heck my pentoum 2 laptop on 128 mb ram boots faster with viruses on it. Its a pain with the radio shutting down the taking 15 min of charging to turn it on. If I need to make a call and battery is low I know of the app to reower the radio or make a quick 911 call send and end. Rim should implement a quick boot power up which brings the radio and dialpad online as quick as lets say motorola razor phone etc for those quick calls needed. I dont know maybe Im wrong but heaven forbid I have to call 911 for a real accident and my battery died I have to wait for a charge then another 5 minutes to reboot on avg. But yeah this is my only gripe thus far.......and lack of installing items on mem card like win mo

I understand your frustrations but unfortunately the boot time and radio are pretty much similar to all blackberrys. A tip I can give you...if you are in an emergency situation and your radio is off, go to options/advanced options/wireless upgrade...and it will turn radio back on or there is an app: Force Radio On. :)

thx i am familiar but kind of like a dual boot pc would be nice if the had a dip switch to boot from another chip to boot radio and necessary files to complete a call. i guess many could say dont let battery die but if it locks up or drops and battery falls out we up sh@ts creek for a few min minimum

That is very true. Although, boot times are way better now than they started out as at launch. :crazy::D

The situations that you cite are controllable by the user. As you already mentioned - don't let your battery get so low that it is going to die on you. The other situation that is preventable - don't drop your phone so that the battery falls out or at least keep a case on your phone so if you are prone to dropping it, there is less chance of the battery popping out. I have had both WinMO phones and BBs and I have never let a phone's battery get low enough to die. Nor, do I have a tendency to drop my phones and have the battery pop out. As to rebooting because the phone froze - I had at least 3 times as many reboots due to phone freezing with WinMo devices than I have ever had with my BB devices.

good points idd, a well u can also use radio on it just keeps switching ur radio on untill its so low the phone will auto switch off.

About the 911 call ;) try it, but press hangup before the call is actually made, the phone will auto divert remaining power to the antenna, and it will be swithced on.

So yes u can call 911 in times of need;)

Keep in mind as newer OS's are released boot times can be lowered quite a bit. On the Stock OS (tour) it took well over 5 min to boot up. Running .191 my boot time was cut down to 2 min 30 sec for a full boot up.

As for Radio 911 works to turn it back on as well as the force radio app, or you can use wireless upgrade to for the radio back on as well.

From my understanding the hybrid OS's offered cut boot time significantly, you may want to try one of those. I agree the boot time for the stock Blackberry operating system is quite slow. One thing that should help some is the improvement of hardware as devices get faster processors and increased memory size and speed this should help some.

But the majority of the issue is with RIM's code I believe, I am sure this could be re-coded/re-worked and optimized to be much more efficient to process- but not something that is a high priority to RIM as they are always behind on most everything- even more so development wise as it is.

BB devices these days has significantly faster hardware, but boot times are still slow... but the same goes for WinMo devices...
well that's what we get for using phones with powerful os...
