If Blackberry have a massive amount of unsold Z10's. they should sell them through Amazon at £200/$300 unlocked, soon clear them out and spread BB10 to more users, also they should sell online at low prices as Google does and cut out all carriers and retailers, the Z30 looks brilliant but is priced again too high, up with Sony Z1 /galaxy S4 and LG G2, even I a Z10 owner looking to up grade, does Blackberry Z30 offer enough for my money?, and Blackberry reported to be abandoning the consumers for business customers, even Blackberry loyalists will eventually leave.
The entire write off value may not fully manufactured devices.
This could very well be all components to build a Z10.
Hi it has been reported that BlackBerry is writing off inventory of almost one Billion Dollars of unsold Z10's, BlackBerry intended to sell millions of them i doubt that this is parts in bins, I know many retailers are sending them back or sell at half price, now news of T Mobile US not stocking or selling them in stores, my business contacts are eager to replace BlackBerry phones with Apple /Android ones, I am amazed that BlackBerry have shipped some Z30's, they have overpriced them again, only hope is that so few arrive that collectors buy them at this price. BlackBerry have dug their own grave now all they have left is to jump in.
I think it would be a combination of both. Fully built Z10's and the components to produce the Z10. In many ways it is a good move to write off that much in inventory value especially with the new direction they could head. That much inventory value does not stand well with stock holders and investor, ask anyone with a role in ISC. It will hurt in the beginning but with the right direction and organization it will pay off in the long run.
