9300 and keyboard stutter.

I have a BB Curve 9300 T-Mobile made in Mexico that I bought in South Africa and it has OS 5.0. It is only 4 months old and since day one, the keyboard gave probs.

The keys sometimes stutter llikke tthisss. No matter how short a duration I press it and when I press "delete" it will delete 3 or 4 letters.

I have set the "Key Rate" from fast to slow and it improves when in "slow".

Surely this is an indication that it is a software problem and not a keyboard prob? Perhaps the timer in the OS 5.0 is not long enough to diss very quick repetitive clicks?

If I upgrade to OS 6.0, will this help? Thanks.

I have no idea if an os upgrade will fix it, but it can't hurt either! I'm the kind of guy who cannot resist downloading an upgrade 10 minutes after it becomes available, so its hard for to understand why you haven't already done that?!?

Tried the update from RIM a few times but it stops just after "saving data" and gives an internet connection error although I have an "excellent" speed with HSUPA.
I connect by tethering my tablet to laptop via Bluetooth or by making my tablet a WiFi HotSpot. Neither work.

The updates I can get from here and other sites scare me as I don't know if they will work with my SP here in South Africa. The OS I have is from T-Mobile that I think is USA but it works here. Some upgrades are from Verizon, Spain and others that I have not heard of.

Some advise please.

I have installed updates from many different carriers. The os I'm running right now on my Bold came from a Chinese carrier. The process I always use is through the Desktop Manager. I download the os onto my laptop. I then go into the os and delete the vendor file (this is the specific file for the specific carrier). Then I connect my phone to my laptop and open up the DM and the updated os comes up as available. It usually takes about 30 minutes to finish the process. There are detailed instructions on exactly how this is done here in BBOS somewhere. Sorry I don't have a link for you.

I've never done an update using bluetooth or hotspot or anything like that, so I can't really speak on that. So maybe the issue you are having if everything else is correct, (like downloading the correct os for your mode, deleting the vendor file, etc) is in the way you are connecting. Please post back!

Thanks guys. Found the problem with downloading BB DM. I needed. MS.net framework 3.5 sp 1 and ms.net framework 4 web installer.
Now my DM installed fine. Will do an OS upgrade soon.

Gee. What trouble I had to install the OS. Wiped the phone clean and unplugged it. BIIIG mistake. DM could not connect to it again so I had to use AppLoader.exe. More probs. It would not show "UNKNOWN" but immediately showed my pin as if it remembered it.
To get around this, I had to uninstall DM and reinstall it. Removed the battery and plugged it in. Started the AppLoader file and the box showed COM 1. Reinstalled the battery and the "UNKNOWN" appeared then quickly clicked on NEXT?
The rest was a breeze.
Did not fix the keyboard stutter so I had to replace it.

Wow! Thanks for posting back. Sounds like it was a headache, but I'm glad you were able to get it up and running again. :)

An easier way to recover a bricked BB is to click on "Forget Device". This will ensure that the pin is deleted from memory. Then you won't need to uninstall and reinstall DM?
Why didn't I think of this before?
