Thread: I'm weird,'cause I chose BB

I'm tired of all these 'BB is doomed', 'RIM is the past' prophecies getting posted everyday, everywhere.

I'm a proud user of a 9800 Torch for the entire past year now, and I must be really a weird guy, cause I'm actually HAPPY with BB.

I didn't pursue the biggest app store, I didn't like phone gaming (that's what my 3DS, X360 and PC are here for, BTW). I just wanted a reliable phone service, with complete email integration and, if possible, multimedia capabilities for my spare time. AND I GOT PRECISELY THAT FROM MY TORCH (and my brand new PB, also).

I also think most of the people tend to be far too much U.S.-centric. BB is doing really well in many many different countries (such as mine, Spain, where BB has increased its market share up to 6% or so in the last 12 months).Maybe most of those sales were cheaper, entry-level 8300s, but nevertheless those are also teens/pre-teens (i.e. future adults with their own money ;-) ) getting used to the BB interface and apps.

RIM is having trouble, OK. They were late and they were worse than their competitors for some time. BUT there are millions of people using BB phones all over the world, and that has to be taken into account.

There are many things RIM could've done better: here in Spain, App World prices are way more expensive than Apple or Android ones for the same app. Also, I was NOT pleased to know that my months-old 600€ smartphone wouldn't be getting even an OS7 upgrade, NEVER EVER.

But even with this, my Torch works well and it does the job I wanted my phone to do. So, why all the iPhone, Android ads from people that cannot difference between an 1600+ Athlon and a i5 4-core PC, appart from the 'flat' monitor? To simply look 'cooler'?

As long as BB serves me right, I'm done with all those tech gurus and prophets... Long live BB!!!

I am strange as well. Whenever I go out I am usually the only one with a BlackBerry. Where I live it is very trendy to have an Apple product people, every coffee shop has about 15 people with their iPad or iPhones out on the table. I always love to break out my BlackBerry products, people are always like what is that?

I know a few people who have BlackBerry's but what I do notice is a lot of iPhone users all they seem to do is talk about BlackBerry devices instead of saying how they like their own they always seem to try and tell me how bad BlackBerry are

They should have got a BlackBerry instead, instead of putting their energy bashing RIM and BlackBerry devices.

That's my point, except that in my case, there are more Android devices (Samsung Galaxy S I&II, specially).

And the surprise for my friends and colleagues comes from the form factor and the fresh interface of my PB. Most of them start complaining about the smaller screen and that kind of things, but after a couple minutes hands on, they end up loving the hardware. I hope RIM will hit right on target when they release BB10 for PBs.

And of course, they also need a proper marketing campaign at the same level of quality this wonderful tablet has. Most of the people here in Spain don't even know there's a BB tablet out there, wherever you go it's all about iPads and/or cheaper Android tablets.

Well written post. RIM definitely needs to do a better job at marketing BB10, starting now. Build the anticipation. And once here yell louder than anyone in the house! That has always been something I've not understood, the lack of marketing. Now, at one time they didn't need to push their devices but times have changed and hopefully they get that now. As the OP said "long live BlackBerry"
