Thread: Storm, Storm 2, Tour

Hello all

I've been lurking for awhile actually since I got laid off and my company took back by wirelessly connected laptop and cell phone. I rushed out to verizon (best coverage in NH)in order to maintain my cell phone number (ending 9999). I started my own business as an independant sales rep and need a blackberry to communicate on the road. I'm also kind of a hi-tech junkie and like my toys.

That said I'm suffering from a paralysis of analysis. I started this research as the storm 2 rumors of June/July were circulating and before the latest software updates to the storm. I had my mind set that I would wait. Now it seems like it could be another 5-6 months for the storm 2. Meanwhile the original storm's price seems to be dropping and I'm talking to owners who are very happy and a few that aren't. I've certainly read enough negativity to make me wait. The tour looks like a comprimise between the storms with a traditional key pad instead of touch screen but the viewing screen is smaller-not sure what else I'd be giving up.

So unless anyone can provide some words of wisdom to alter my view, I'll wait for the tour and keep an eye on storm 2 release dates and give it some time to hear if recent firmware updates have alleviated issues with the original storm.

Meanwhile I'll keep checking here often.

It all depends on what you are looking for in a bb. If you need it to answer a lot of emails/texts/etc., you probably are better off with one that has a physical keyboard, and I hear Tour is gonna be awesome!!! If you don't have many emails and so on, both storms are nice due to their screen size....If you do decide to go with the storm, I would strongly suggest waiting for storm2. The decision is yours though....Play with the Tour when it comes out and see how you like it. Good luck

Assuming that the Tour is going to be more reliable than the Storm I would definitely wait... I mean we already know that the Storm is by no means reliable, even with all of the non official Hybrids. If it's for business, I would honestly consider getting a Curve, at least until another model has proven itself to be more reliable.

As olta said it all depends on the type of use. I use a Storm for my company phone and it works without a hitch, I am on the BES server and sync without any issues. The only conern, I say concern because I don't feel it to be a problem, is the typing. Not that it is an issue, its more of a user friendly concern. If you make some minor adjustments to the screen (putting a business card in the battery casing), which most probably don't want to do, I have found I can type a lot faster.

well if you're waiting for teh storm 2 you're gonna be in for quite a wait. the storm is available now, and works great, the tour is coming soon, but no offial date is announced. should be soon though.

waiting for the storm 2 when the storm 1 is here and works fine is like saying you're waiting for the corvette with an LS3 engine in it, even though the LS2 works fine.

The Storm is mostly for consumer users, people who just don't really need a lot of typing for emails/BBM/texts and etc.

The Tour is more business users, if you need to shoot out email after email, and type on BBM all day, your gonna want a physical keyboard on the Tour. And I have yet to say the keyboard on that thing is amazing!

I guess a lot has to do with your personal preference. I am a business owner and do a ton of emails with the Storm. There was a learning curve but found myself not missing a physical keyboard at all. Some BB users will always long for the physical keyboard so it really comes to down what the end user is more comfortable with.

That's true as well. If you can shoot out email after email on the Storm mind as well get it. But if you NEED a physical QWERTY then you pass on the Storm and get the Tour or some sort of physical QWERTY phone.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll wait for tour release and decide between that and storm 1 unless storm 2 surprised with an early release date!

Welcome to BBOS RPH!!! I don't when Storm 2 will be released but I will tell you, you will be more than surprised. Typing on it is simply amazing. IMHO it will rival and physical qwerty BB and I have big fat fingers.

From what I can see in Wiki pages and specs, the Tour is the Storm without the touchscreen. Same OS (4.7.x), capabilities, and processor.

The Storm 2 probably will be another Christmas or holiday season release, but that might be too early as not much information seems to have leaked out about the next Storm.

Storm vs Tour - Large Screen vs keyboard/scrollerball. I used to use my fingernails to press the keys on a keyboard BB and it worked for me. I try using my thumbs and I often miss the touch areas on the Storm because the size of my thumbs. It's also frustrating for me to have a smaller screen area left to see/work with if I have to use the virtual keyboard on the Storm. Of course if you have pictures or graphics to work with, bigger displays usually win.

The choice is yours. I am looking at the Tour but will wait to see how well they fix issues in the next Storm, even if it may come out late next year (this time frame is made up).

I think you summed up the two phones very nicely. Each have the pros and cons. So with that being said I will probably pick up both lol. I have actually gotten exceptionally good at typing on the Storm but nothing compares to a real deal qwerty. What disappoints me about the Tour is that you're right it's essentially a keyboard version of the Storm with a smaller screen. Plus I think I am done buying phones until WiFi is available. I just don't see the rationale for that leaving that out.

WiFi in general has a negative effect on battery life.
