Thread: Blackberry as a router ?

hello all..

i have a torch 9810 , and i was wondering if there is a way to make my blackberry to be as a router ?

i have also iphone 4s , and it has this feature where it acts like a Wifi , and othere devices can use the iphone data plan,,

wondering if there is such a thing for blackberry ?

If I remember correctly, you'll need a tethering plan from your carrier. I know that AT&T will hammer you money wise if you don't have such a plan.
I have detailed instructions for AT&T customers that I pilfered from elsewhere if you want to try them.

So, your iPhone is acting as the modem then? I'm not quite understanding your question. Probably not enough coffee yet. However, I did find a nice How-To searching the WEB. Read through this blog post and let me know if it is addressing what your asking.

just remember what I mentioned earlier, if you're using AT&T and they decide that you are using your phone as a router, they will charge you the most they can legally for a tethering package.

my cousin has iphone 4s m and he has a data plan , so whenever we are out , there is an option in iphone that lets me connect to his data plan via Wifi , its called " personal hotspot "

so i was wondering if there is such thing for blackberry.

I remember when the BB OS 6.1 was rumored back in the 1st quarter of this year that "personal hotspot" would be available. Since 6.1 turned out to be 7.0, personal hotspot has not been seen.

thats really disappointing..

if they could develop this on bb, it would be sick...

What you are referring to is a mobile hot spot type feature. Unfortunately there are no such features for OS 7.0 and below. It is available on OS 7.1 for the 9900 you can take a look at some comments here:

Doesn't BB offer a Wi-Fi hotspot application?

OK, I found this info from a BlackBerry Technical Advisor, "You cannot use the BlackBerry smartphone as a wireless router for other devices. You can however tether it to a PC to obtain internet access. You will have to contact your wirless service provider regarding using your BlackBerry smartphone as a tethered modem."

Well, if you mean can a BB connect via Wi-Fi then yes they can. Not sure I'm understanding your question though.
