Thread: IPhone, Palm Pre..New 'got to have' phones..Blackberry?

Where is RIM? With the new 'got to have' phones being released with in weeks of each other, you would think Blackberry has something up their sleeves to deal with the competition, which I might add is very strong competition for them. Both phones are touch phone and both offer A LOT of features that one would want or need. So again, where is RIM? RIM has the Tour which is supposedly releasing sometime soon but I honestly don't think the Tour will or even so can be included in the same category as the pre or the Iphone. The only phone I think that has a chance is the Storm 2. I still have a feeling RIM is BSing us about when this phone 'may' be released. I still think they want us to believe it is going to be later and then suddenly we will hear about it being released in a few weeks. If they don't do something quick, they are not going to be able to keep up or join in the battle for the 'got to have phone'.

I agree....they will lose many many people....but you know, I feel like RIM does everything "a day late and a dollar short"

I agree with this, IMHO I believe the Storm 2 is the make or break for RIM. I feel if it isn't great, I can see alot of people jumping ship to other phones on the market

I don't think it's gonna be make or break anymore.....they are already in a break mode with current storm....so I think it's gonna be fix the break :bad:

You know, I was playing with a Pre the other day at the Sprint store, and I have to say, not so impressed, and well, I was never impressed with the Iphone. I had high hopes for the Pre, knowing that Palm is near the end of days. I seemed unfinished, like it was rushed, for some unknown reason. The edges sharp, the UI seemed somewhat counter-intuitive, and it felt almost cheap/plasticy. I read all the reviews, wanted to believe, and yet, am somehow let down. I was with Sprint, working retail during the down years, when I knew someday it might be their last hurrah, so they always have a special place in me, I'd like to see them succeed, and I have to root for the underdog Palm because... well it's PALM! I just don't know, Pre... you could have been something phenomenal. I'll wait for a new Web OS device; there is potential.

But back to topic, I agree that RIM should put out a must-have device, but I don't think there needs to be any rush on a Storm 2. RIM kept strong with the business market in the beginning, they got into the personal market with the Pearl/Curve, and now they are in it. Even if they lose personal customers, they still are THE choice when it comes to Corporations. They can go a while without a new device if it means coming out with a flashy, cool, actual "IPhone Killer". The Tour will tide me over, giving me (hopefully) the stability I lost with the Storm, and then the Storm 2 should come along and seal the deal and show the Apple how the real Cellphone Manufacturers play. :evil:

See I think the opposite the storm isn't make or break for RIM they were successful before and they will be successful after. Look at the Curve 83xx versus the iphone sales this is quoted from WSJ

"Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry Curve outsold the Apple Inc. iPhone during the first three months of the year, market tracker NPD Group reported Monday."

I have been a blackberry owner for years and will continue to be a blackberry owner for years to come. I knew what I was getting into when buying the Storm but I need the latest and greatest :lmao:

Unless we see an amazing leak for the storm i'll be putting it on the shelf and picking up the Tour.

Then i'll sit back and wait for storm2 to prove its self.

But i don't think they're too far off on an iphone killer, or at least competition. They just need to take a better look at some of these forum sites and pay attention to what people want. I think they need to hire BBC to help work on the OS, throw in at least 256 app mem...in fact double that...and put into the options half the stuff you have to buy apps to fix such as soft resets, alert notifications, and maybe a pop-up window, pack on a 16gb sd card, flick scrolling, animated home screens, and some more funky transitions....would be the best phone out!!

I saw the WWDC webcam and read the keynotes. I do love storm ( thanks to BBOS ) but apple does have promising remarks. Anyhoot.... I did notice one thing about the new "MMS" for the Iphone. THEY DON'T COME OUT TIL LATER SUMMER!!!. I use mms most of the day sending pix and videos to friends. ummm... the price seems reasonable but do I really want to go to AT&T?? My girlfriends Iphone drops calls left and right. Idk.. RIM you got me right now.

I didnt like my storm very much untill maybe 109 or 122 then it started to get a little better... I have a few friends with Itoys and their app switching transition and speed for the browser blew the storm away, I am now happy with the storm and especially the browser (as it is now faster than the Itoy for browsing) and getting happier with each update rim is coming up with knowing that we have people who will leak them and try and make them better, the ones i feel sorry for are the million people on VZW that dont know what they are missing. The storm with V7 is almost the phone i have been looking for (at least for me) very responsive and very fast and i think its the one the verizon advertising promised us last year. Maybe soon we will get more app memory and better battery life and a quicker camera... Ha!
So for me I'll stick with the storm
