The server blackouts may sway some users to other platforms, but I think a couple here and there is expected. Just think about how many times ones carrier has outages or slowdowns. Its just a fact of cell technology to expect some glitches.
Of course this doesn't give RIM an excuse for this to happen more than their competitors.
