    Unless I am mistaken, BB Protect will do periodic back ups of your data aotomatically, every time the data is changed. Since texts are also backed up, if you send/recieve a lot of texts, and do not delete them frequently, you will be sending data to and from RIM on a regular basis.

    As far as sending less data when the media card is removed, its either a coincidence, or you have installed an app that sends/recieves data stored on the media card.
