Thread: Are we going to see OS 7 on Blackberry Torch 9800 and 9700/9780?

I been tweeting lately if we going to have OS 7 on the Torch 9800, Bold 9700/9780!

Anyone knows if it coming out or not?

It will pretty cool to see this on the trending list ------> #OS7fortheTorch9800 #OS7fortheBold9700/9780

No, RIM has stated that any current device, 9800 on down, will not get the OS 7 update. They aren't built for OS 7.

To add more to this. The older devices (9800 and lower) do not meet certain hardware requirements that are required to run OS 7.

OS 7 can only be used with a CPU of at least 1.2Ghz. These CPU's can be found only on the latest smartphones all the older ones including 9800, 9700, 9780 use a 625Mhz CPU ... But hey at least you could install OS 6 onto the OS 5 preinstalled devices

I'm not sure that's entirely true, the new Curve devices have a CPU less than 1.2Ghz, but they are running OS 7. It has more to do with the hardware to run the compass, NFC capabilities, ect.

And what about hybrids? Is it possible to have a stable mixture of both OS 6 and 7? Or what about the browser 7 on OS 6?

With hybrids, anything is possible. Haven't heard of one yet...

I'm sure there will be some Hybrids, but they will be very limited.

I wish I had the browser 7 because of its super high speed.
I'm not so interested in other features. Can I load the cods of this OS? Or it won't work with the OS 6?

I'm sure there are very few, if any, cod files that will be able to load with OS 6. I know that Hybrid builders will sometimes take a batch of cod files from certain features and overwrite them. I wouldn't recommend messing around with this unless you know what you are doing. Remember, OS 7 is based around many new features due to hardware.
