How committed are you? - Poll

Most of us here have been cradling our BlackBerry's in the palms of our hands for many years. Others for...not so very long. Those of us veterans have seen many changes and advancements in design and technology. Can you believe that some of us actually thought we were cool carrying these phones around (See above pic)?

But, since then, things have changed drastically. BlackBerry's have come a long way; and so have other smartphones. The problem is, with all the stiff competition out there, has RIM been able to keep up? There are many devoted BlackBerry users here and we want to know what you think. So here is you opportunity to express your opinion. Is RIM keeping up with the competition? Is the lack of new models sporting the latest technology swaying BlackBerry users to jump ship? Will the PlayBook be enough?

RIM has not been able to keep up. people are going droid by the hundreds

Blackberry has struggled to keep their consumers, However, I believe they are heading in the right direction and will at least keep up if not pass some of their competitors in the next couple of years. They have accuired and partnered with key companies that will enable them to achieve this standard.

I'm thinking the people going to Droid are the one's who purchased a BB for it's status symbol, and not what it was really made for. These people are looking at the iphone and what Apple is coming out with and are asking why doesn't RIM do the same. They won't go to iphone because most of them are past iphone users. So the next logical status symbol for them is the Android because it does much the same thing as an iphone...mind you, with a few extras.

RIM hasn't really struggled to keep their consumers. Their consumers are the business class, not the teenagers or yuppies who think it's cool to have a blackberry. It has been mentioned many times here in the ::bbos:: forums and by Basillie and company, that RIM's core consumer target group is the business world. That's where they started and that's what they will continue to cater to. One statistic that I have NEVER seen by Apple, Nokia, or any other smartphone company, is how much of the business world do they have? I can pretty much guess that compared to RIM's hold, it's minute in comparison.

That being said, the Playbook is being marketed to the Business world, not as a toy for junior. If thats what your looking for, get an ipad or a Samsung Galaxy. If your looking to enhance your business tools, then get a PB.

I did a quick poll of friends who are using blackberry's primarily for business and pleasure secondary. They're all die hard blackberry users. The company I work for and the last company both use the blackberry because of it's power, functionality and security. Three things a business wants in a smartphone when your seeing alot of "virtual offices" popping up instead of going into the office 5 days a week. No other smartphone can offer those 3 elements at the same time. And really, I doubt they can offer it in teh future as well, only because of the security the blackberry offers.

Ok, I'm off the ::bbos:: soapbox now. Who wants it next.....

i myself thinks rim drop the ball big time they take way to much time on releasing os updates their slow fixing bugs in their own apps .but yet apps built by other people run great . i still love my bb. i been bb nut for 6 years i was talked into a windows phone once that lasted about 2 months that left a very bad taste in my mouth so i went back to bb tour 9630 then to the bold 9650 both great phone i just think rim needs to get their act together and fix their buggy apps

Good points to all. In a nutshell, I think RIM has big plans going on that they aren't telling anyone. I for one think they will start to design in more avenues that just cell phones.

the qnx os i still in the works and from what i heard it should be releasing to the blackberries after the playbook is released

Mark my words, RIM will have comparable Hardware devices like the ones that are out on the market by summer of next year.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing RIM work with Google on a BlackBerry Android based phone. Plus I own the domain blackberrydroid.com. :)

Well, I had BB's. For 8 years now. And I still believe they have their own unique place in the celluar market. Originally and still I believe, they are a business tool. That's where their strength lies, email on a BB is second to none. And the designs of some are now iconic, I hope that RIM keep this in mind of the design of future models. Long live the Bold, and its keyboard.
