I can't wait for you guys to report on all the latest! I have a new deal on my plan pending for May and I want the know which BB will be the best on the market. 512mb would be nice, ney on the clam, but the slider still intrigues me.

For those who watched WES2010 LIVE, what did you guys think about this mornings seminar?

I just finished watching the Sneak Peak Video. I thought I saw some swipe technology while one of those actors was texting/typing.
The seminar, while it was the first one that I've watched, was a great ice-breaker. BlackBerry user's from all around actually got a bundle of information that they could use to determine what RIM has progressed with.
The WES has not unveiled all its treasures just yet. Looking forward to what Wednesday has in store.

I'm going to be blunt and honest about that BlackBerry 6 video. HATED IT. Not the OS, but the video. Hated the song. Hated the dancing. Hated the screen jumping around. The dancing was very distracting from the actual screen showing the OS. Overall way too much going on in the video to actually focus on the qualities and features of the OS itself. Would have been much easier to actually see what the OS can do without the damn thing moving all around and someone behind it dancing like an idiot to a really crappy song. You really have to focus if you want to see what the OS can actually do and admire the improvements.

You may hate that your attention is not focused on the OS itself but RIM probably did that purposely.

That's the really sad part. I actually think the OS may be impressive all on it's own...

Maybe it's just me. But now that we have seen what OS 6 is going to look like and function like (judging from the video), does anyone else feel like 5.0 was thrown to users in a haste until they could finalize 6.0? It just seems like they took threaded SMS from 6.0, watered it down to 4.7 standards, slapped a 5.0 badge on it and gave it to us. I can almost hear the conversation at Waterloo:

RIM Employee: Mr. Lazaridis, our users are becoming restless. They say our OS is stale and boring. What should we do? We're losing customers!

Mike Lazaridis: OK, here's what we'll do. We're working on OS 6, right? Great, good. Take the threaded SMS from OS 6, put it into OS 4.7, rename it 5.0 (huge smile and winks at employee) and lets leak this for 6-9 months, then let carriers release "official" copies to users. Yeah that should buy us some time until we get OS 6 finished up.

RIM Employee: What about the issues with the Tour 9630?

Mike Lazaridis: The what? I don't know of a phone we sell by that name...

5.0 runs great nativly on 128mb devices... its 128 mb devices that don't run great with more than base os.

however over and above that 5. runns great with hybriding to higher builds on 8330!

i think you just have to many apps running.

Unfortunately this is the type of thing that sells to regular consumers. As much as you hate the dancing and what not, that is the type of advertising that made Apple popular. It appeals to a younger audience and if RIM wants to succeed that is what is going to have to happen. Appeal to a younger audience and try to steal some thunder away from Apple and Android. You guys might find it annoying, but it sells.

There are plenty of apple commercials that also just show a still iphone with simulated screens...

This is what happens when they need to divert attention from the product itself...... Adding distractions to the video so people will not focus on what is, in my opinion, a not so exciting new OS with regards to what the competition offer.

    Gui

PS My expectation for the WES is a glimpse and an approximate launch date for a slimmer and lighter Storm.......

I'll admit, my dumb self bought the Storm 1 when I was hearing rumors of storm 2. Big mistake, sucks that Verizon didn't forwarn how soon it was coming and let us upgrade within a reasonable price if bought within 90 days or 6 months. With my NE2 plan I won't be due for upgrade til 2011 of April. Let me just say if there is no ramping and raving of this Blackberry 6 & Storm 3 by then, I'm out. Hate to be that way, but I want a phone that I'm not constantly waiting for an update to the OS and doing a quick pull every 3 hours to. Wish RIM was as committed to us consumers with a great product as we are to defending it's brand. I won't be the 1st to jump ship, but with BB being my 2nd smartphone, it's very dissappointing and annoying how they're constantly having to reconfig their apps. Big upset too not making their orig storm compatible to OS 6 if they're truly been working on it for a while. Two years is a long time to work on an OS and then to just throw Storm 1 out there without configuring it to be compatible to it is even more dissapointing and shows they don't know what they're doing. JMHO...take it with a grain of salt. I'm blue in the face from holding my breath..and just tired.

Anyone notice how the virtual OS 6 in the video was based on touchscreen?

That can only mean 2 things:

    1. Either it is a version thought for the storm 2, in which case it proves that it will be compatible

    2. Storm 3 will not be a slider

    Gui

Edit. Sorry forgot to add another option:

    3. RIM have no idea what they're doing (to quote Brett) lol

    Nice observation... :35:
And the resolution would be 360 x 480 in relation to the images.

Didn't Lazaridis just tell us that touch screens are a fad? Where's the 6.0 qwerty? Or better yet why can't we have qwerty and touchscreen?

thats wut im thinkin.. the slider can still be touchscreen. and touchscreens arent exactly a fad.. they have easily taken over the market and are appealing to a large amount of consumers.. i better hear something bout either the storm 3 .. a touch screen and qwerty phone.. and/or the slider b4 this ends.. if not.. then RIM will of let us all down once again.. their potential is so boundless.. but they are just extra dumb.. the 6 OS is somethin to look forward to.. but if the device isnt worth it then wut? i just pray that there will be a storm 3 with a good 6 OS build waiting for my @ the end of my NE2 ..

I really doubt 6.0 will run with 128MB. They bumped up the 9650 to 512MB to make it "OS 6 Ready." Most likely 256 is going to be the minimum.

Im just hoping the WES news would be out rocking on wednesday. Today's news was..........a black eyed pees music video.

Lol and there were WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many guys at that party. hahahaha
