A Sneak Peek at BlackBerry OS 6.0

Hats off to LouiV and the BBLeaks crew for what is being circulated as images of Research In Motions BlackBerry OS 6.0. Judging by the date in the picture this has been in development for some time.
With the direction of the Smartphone arena being so fluid it is plain to see that RIM is on track with the use of OpenGL and Widgets. While we all now that with BlackBerry it is business first, the comments from the internetz this morning have not been agreeable to say the least.
So if these pics are as dated as I am seeing it then maybe improvements have developed a more user detailed experience. Judging by the pics, customization looks to be the key.

This looks awesome! BB Definitely needs to do something for young users to not switch to Android or iPhone and this looks promising. I want it now!

I am giving RIM till the end of the year to at least give me web-kit. If they give me OS 6.0 my BB would be even better. It kinda sucks to see others with their droids customizing whatever they want and seeing how fast those devices move and how fluid every works together. I am still giving my BB a chance. Go RIM. Let's make it happen.

I know I don't have a BB yet, but this looks like rubbish. The only screenshot that doesn't look like a cluttered mess is the very first one and we saw that one a while ago. The alarm one doesn't look TOO bad but that other one, the buttons are over the line, 47 F is terribly place, it is a terrible layout overall for that one..

Looks fake, anyone could have thrown these shots together in less than an hour in photoshop. Until I see it on a phone I won't believe it.

I have to agree with Jerde... Am I the only one who thinks this looks like crap and isn't impressive in the least? I truly don't think RIM is capable of delivering an impressive new OS. And if these screen shots are real, then it just proves it.

    Sunkast,

Is it really that hard to believe RIM could produce a product like the images above? With just about every smartphone bring more to the fight, each and everyday, it may be enough for RIM to seriously look at what their OS's offer.

I do agree that something like the images above would not happen overnight, but I think RIM has been around long enough to understand that change will need to come if they want to keep RIM users happy and content.

And another three cents, for us business power users, functionality, functionality, functionality.... I can stress that enough!!! If OS 6.0 is suppose to being some major renovation, BRING IT!

Oh no, I totally believe RIM could build an OS that looks like the screen shots. But these screen shots don't impress me. In fact, I don't find the look to be appealing at all.

OS 6.0 looks like a nice change for the BlackBerry world, Hopefully I will see it on a Verizon device before 2015 in an official state.

    @sunkast

Gotcha. I see what you're saying. I was reading too far into your response. The look in that image seems to be more focused on what HTC is doing. Is that a good thing? Yes and no. Yes for the fact that RIM is looking outside the box. No, because it doesn't look functional. But we are all basing our judgments off a few clips. Maybe if RIM offered some draft White Papers on the OS, we could gain some more insight.

Just a few more cents to the piggy bank!

    Cheers

Its early but this looks like it will definitely revamp the Blackberry Experience! I am excited to see what is to come from 6.0. There is definitely a much larger jump from 5.0 to 6.0 than there was from 4.0 to 5.0, judging from these images.

    Wow,

If as you state for you having to wait until 2015 for anything impressive from Verizon/RIM then that is waaaaaaaay tooooo long to wait for anything of a technical nature given the current state of the competition. Hard as it may be to switch to a smart phone that gives you what you want in a timely manor may be what we are going to be forced to do. Sorry Verizon and RIM, but getting tired of seeing others leap frog. But at least a word or some showing of something to keep us in the Q. hone:

Fake or Not, on the current hardware you can do all of this with a good theme. I personally think that even if this is in the works, RIM will hold out for a Storm 3 or any newer model BBerry. If they give me a thinner, faster Storm 3 (with no darn slide-out keyboard) I'll take it. I'm not knocking the other BBerrys but that's the change I want with my Storm. The Droid doesn't impress me and I will Never get an Itoy.

    I'm gonna call fake

Not sure why they put the weather at 59 degrees at 5:07 PM in San Francisco, I even went out of my way to search the weather history for that date and time for that region, lol. Not to mention you have that time and then 3:35 for what looks like Atlanta on the left clock...?? I really hate the look of this-looks like windows mobile crap, I like it how it is now, just give us a new browser and media player :aargh4:
Ya know what's funny... I always thought that umm... dogs laid eggs, and I learned something today!!! :-)

It isn't about RIM playing catch up. It is about RIM delivering something revolutionary that will put them ahead of the game. What does having a blackberry provide when all their owners have to wait to have any new implementations on other O.S. They might as well branch out and have a phone that will provide them with the latest and greatest.
