Changes are being made to Blackberry Messenger???

This morning I woke up and checked the Facebook, as I always do. To my surprise there was news posted about Blackberry Messenger. The news was posted by the Official Blackberry Facebook account and the title of the post was:

BlackBerry®: Quick Tip: Do you have the latest version of BlackBerry Messenger?

The article or post, said that it might be a good idea to make sure that you were on BBM 5.0.0.57, as there are some exciting changes launching soon. They said that if you are on this version of BBM, then expect to see many fun and interesting changes in the near future. For you to experience the updates that they are speaking about, it is not needed to do any sort of download. The post said just make sure you are on .57 of BBM and in a few days or weeks you will see many changes. What is all this new stuff they are talking about? RIM did not mention anything about what the changes will be, so as soon as we get more details we will post it here.

I'm betting they are gonna add the new smileys to the smiley list. Probably noticed the popularity of all the new ones that people found. Thats my official guess.

Sounds like you'll need an update for that though. Seems they're hinting more at back-end, server side changes as these changes seem to be coming to the already existing version. I do wonder if it's possible to push changes like this without a complete update of the app though :/

That also makes you wonder, do they have a hidden built in auto update feature in the current one? If they truly wanted to hide it - we wouldn't have any clue. Just tossing it out there, it's a possibility. That's why they are encouraging the latest release.

It does say "you will notice them" though. Makes you think that it has to be bigger than just maintenance improvements.

My idea would be:

- New smileys, which is minor actually
- Server-side upgrades to maintain connection better
- A new look of the app itself, which is a bit far-fetched...

I kinda doubt that the look of the app will change because then the version number will have to change. The memo only indicates that users will need the latest version of BBM in order to notice the changes.

It almost sounds like it is all server side.

Unless they put something in .57... By this I mean some sort of dormant feature. A feature of the app that will not work until a "Switch" is flipped in Canada.
