Thread: vlingo

Hi all, new to the site. New to owning a bb (5 days or so)

Have been looking at various apps and would love to be using vlingo (or other) to write texts/emails by voice while I drive. Would prefer not to pay (duh)

Saw some previous posts about how v2.0 or 2.1 used to work in these capacities for free...but can't manage to get my hands on them...maybe the company has somehow disabled them.

Any intel/help would be AWESOME!

Basically I don't care about any functionality except text/email voice to text for while I drive...or even one of the two. I am aware that there is an app to go the other way (text to speech) at the appworld.

Sounds as if you are on BES?! I rejected the BES service from the company I'm working for, since they would in the same way inhibit many of the functions of my berry for "security reasons"... cannot help out yet, but I start digging right away!

Hm...only found commercial ones, that claim to be compatible with BES e.g.:

...but you were on it as well already...so far: crashing your dreams, sorry...have you talked to your BES people already?

I don't know what BES is, but I don't think I'm on it.

Then what's wrong about vlingo free?

I guess you are missing the email function for free?

the company I was refering to is the company that put out vlingo.

the problem with vlingo free is that it only sends texts to other people who have vlingo...whereas most of the people I'm trying to contact don't even have blackberries...and yes, I also miss the email functionality.

Without the ability to send texts and or emails to people who don't have vlingo, the program is useless and was deleted.

Vlingo free is exactly that. You can only send s m s messages to Vlingo customers. I use the premium version of Vlingo. I can send s m s, emails to anyone. I can even fill out responses just like I am doing right now...Verbally !! I responded to this post using Vlingo. The premium version is worth the money...In my opinion.

I'm going to chime in here.. and agree. Vlingo Plus is a bit much for an app, however its fantastic. I love being able to speak BBM's and SMS's and one of my favorite things is that it actually starts to "learn" your voice after a while, allowing it to be more accurate.

Like I said, I know its a bit much for an App, but totally worth it.

Not a fan, I tried this last night and had to repeat my sentence for twitter five times and annunciation pretty well and still one word was messed up. I can't see myself trying to use this in public, with all the annunciation needed...lol.

It's great in the car. I believe they disabled the 2.0/2.1 versions anyway so you're probably wasting your time searching for the files. If you shop around you can frequently find discounts online, unfortunately Vlingo isn't available through Mobihand (BlackberryOS Store) but it is over at Handango.

Don't get me started on the price though... I paid for Vlingo 3 about 60 days before 4 came out with Vlingo Everywhere and still had to pony up another $10 bucks just to add the "everywhere" functionality. *sigh*
