Thread: Blackberry General "Radio ROM Flash"

I have a very general question here. My BB Storm 9500 just recently died after 18 months. So I went out to my local at&t store and now trying out the HTC Tilt 2.. Not the best phone I have ever owned and shortly will be returned to at&t. Not sure what I will get next, after owning the Storm it is hard to go back a get a BB Device with a small screen.

That said, why hasn't someone figured out how to flash the Blackberry Radio ROM? To allow it to work with what ever career you want?

I noticed that a lot of Quad's both Droid and Windows ROMS can be Flashed and even opened to work on just about any career, that is except for Blackberry Devices?

I have even seen a couple of at&t labeled phones flashed ruining on Verizon's EVO?

With all the knowledge here on BBOS why hasn't someone figured this out? Most of all Devices are built on the Quailcomm Platform? Including All The Storm models...

Just a thought?

You will need MFI Multiloader, QPST and alot of luck..

And to hope to never be caught lol. I think the main reason is because its against the law period but the fact to get data you have to run through rims servers would make it just that much harder to accomplish

true but still possible, dont forget hackers sometimes does good things

I dont see where it could be considered against the law? It is a known fact that Careers go out of their way to lock down users only to their services. Their are currently actions underway to Stop US Careers To Stop Crippling Phones!

@OP Forgive me for my ignorance, but what you are talking about sounds a lot like "unlocking." Unlocking a phone to work on a different carrier isn't illegal. As a matter of fact, there are many retailers that sell unlocked phones to work on carriers that don't currently offer the model of phone you want. Vodafone's BlackBerry Storm works just fine on American AT&T (without 3G, of course). If what you are talking about is flashing CDMA phones to work on GSM carriers, that is a hardware issue. The radio hardware just isn't installed in every CDMA phone...only if it is referred to as a "World Phone." There are also frequency issues to consider. Some phones have the hardware to support certain frequencies and not others. I THINK AT&T's frequencies for 3G are 850, 900 (scarce), and 1900, and T_Mobile's freq's are 900 and 2100...don't quote me on those. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about what you are referring to...but it does sound like unlocking.

Were do i sign up for this movement?

This carrier war on who has the best phone is becoming a pain. If I was a device manufacture (I know one of them already have done this, but I can't recall the phone) have a phone that runs on all the networks. It don't matter who your with, if they have 3G, EDGE, CDMA the phone will pick it up.
