    IT Policy Workaround?

    Hi Everyone,

I am helping a friend that is trying to sync her calender to either Outlook or Gmail and I've hit a brick wall. She was given an 8830 WE that has an IT Policy on the phone and neither she or her friend knew about it when the phone traded hands. The phone was personally owned but connected to a corporate network. My friend got the phone to work on Verizon and set-up her existing email addresses, one of which is Gmail, to work with the phone. All was well until the first sync using the USB cable and Outlook. The end result is all of her calender entries are now gone from Outlook but they remain intact on the phone. Bottom line is she cannot make either Outlook or her Gmail calenders sync correctly. Interestingly though, the sync function seems to work on inbound calender entries but the IT Policy obviously will not let the phone send anything outbound to either Outlook or Gmail.

The email works fine and the contact list syncs as advertised.

I am hesitant to remove the IT policy at this juncture because it will wipe the phone and she will be left with no calender entries anywhere.

What is a good work-around to get her calender entries on either Outlook or Gmail, given the constraints of the IT Policy? I was thinking of using the device switch wizard in DM to transfer the info on her phone to another BB but I'm thinking the IT Policy would also come along for the ride and I'll be in the same situation.

    Does anyone have any thoughts?

You can use a program called CrackUtil that should make it easier to remove the IT Policy.

If this does not work for you, let me know as I have other options I can give you.

Thanks suncast. I've used CrackUtil in the past to remove the IT policy and my recollection is that it wipes the phone. I intend to do that but I need to transfer all the calender entries first. This is where my problem lies. Do you think using Device Switch Wizard, transferring all data to another BB phone will also transfer the existing IT policy to the new phone?

If I can get the data to another phone without the IT policy, I may be able to make this all work.

Just an idea here, have you tried google sync to see if you can get the calendar and contacts off?

Actually Jnepsa, I did try that. What I discovered is the 8830 will not let calender entries leave the phone when syncing with Google but it accepts new appointments from the Google calender.

Just wanted you to know the Switch Device Wizard worked. It transferred all the data from the phone with the IT Policy on it to another BB phone, removed the IT Policy from the original phone, reconnected to DM, performed a sync and all is normal.

Whew...thought it was going to be more difficult but a bit of good luck now an then is always welcome.

glad you got it to work. I was also going to ask if you tried doing an advanced backup on DM to only save the things you wanted.
