Thread: Question re: Saving Profile settings when changing OS

Is there a way to save your profile settings when upgrading your OS? The restore doesn't seem to keep them and I was wondering if any 3rd party app or special way (like there is a special way to do 3rd party app backups) that would save them? That is the worst part of setting up your phone since there is no setting that says "all sounds should have repeat notifications set to none) etc.

backup through dm should save them. It has always worked for me. You may need to try doing an advanced restore to get ur profiles back but it should restore them.

Ummm I've never had to re do my profile settings they all are saved to my backup and just need to restore them.

No, I haven't tried an advanced restore, just the center button restore. Can someone explain what I should be doing in the advanced section?

It looks to me that I would move everything over from the device to the computer, click on file and then save before doing my changes and then reverse the process when I am ready to restore - is that correct?

I should note that I do a wipe before installing the new OS - do you also do that?

I always wipe, I just make my backup prior to wipe and that's it, I'm about to start driving right now, if by when I get home no one has explained the advanced restore process I will do it, hope you understand.

Open DM go to backup/restore then click advanced. Now you will see two panes.. the one on the right is the device memory, the one on the right should be empty... click file on top of the left and then select one of your backups... after that find sounds highlight it and then click the button >>>

I think I understand what you are saying - When I do a normal backup the sounds get saved to that same file and I can manually select them to restore to phone.

To ensure that my settings do get backed up can I also move from right to left to save to computer?

that is correct.. if you thought yo uhad a corrupt file this is how you could back up the important things instead of complete to help with that.
