Password Trouble

My son-in law had his blackberry stolen from his car and we were talking about all the business data someone now had access to. I had never used the password on my Storm v8. I set the password and now cannot disable it?
I have gone in and set the Enable/Disable choice to Disable/Save. It still now asks me for a password every time. I have done battery pulls etc.
It will allow me to change the password, but not to to eliminate it. What am I missing?

By the way Crackman...the v8 is fantastic. I hesitate to switch to v8.5.
