Thread: Vendor.xml

When installing leaked/beta OS's I've always deleted the vendor file as advised. In a recent ordeal with blackberry support, the "tech" guy (not so much, but...) made it sound like deleting vendor files caused problems within the operating system. I have never noticed any issues, but as i don't know the importance of the vendor file, i can't really say he's wrong.

My question is... would deleting the vendor file, and pasting a vendor file from an official operating system from your carrier (e.g. T-mobile) cause any issues? Can anyone see how this would affect anything?

I was about to try that but I decided not to. It's the file its self that causes the problem. I don't think it matters which carrier.

From my best guess having one on interups any outside carriers os installers. I think this is why it's causing people not to be able to install a newer leaked os.

That's correct SMC. I have never had an issue related to vendor. In most leaked OS, the vendor file is empty anyways, but may prevent DM/Loader seeing the OS. Once the OS is official by any carrier, that info is edited into the vendor. In any case, it's always a good idea to delete it, unless you are loading an OS official by your carrier. I used to think that deleting this was a waste of time and stopped doing it. But one of the leaked OS's must have had a Vendor file in it that made my DM screwy. Never really figured it out until many OS's layer what caused it. DM wouldn't show the leaked OS's, and I had to Wipe several times in a row with Crackmem to even get Loader to even see there was an OS present. After an advanced search of Hidden files, I found a couple Vendor files in various locations on my PC. After deleting all those, all has been fine.
