I changed the notification sounds for my e-mail and text messages, but when I get an e-mail or text, it doesn't play the sound I set - it plays the default sound.

What BB are you using and do you have any programs that influence your notifications like BerryBuzz?
Storm 9530. No programs that affect ring.
Are you sure you edited the correct profile and saved the changes? If the audio file is on a media card while you have the phone plugged in with mass storage mode enabled, the phone will not be able to access any file on the media card... Also have you tried a battery pull?
Did you create a custom profile or alter one of the default ones?
If you have made sure the settings saved properly (ie. go out of profiles and back into them) and they are; and your sure the profile is active to the one you changed, try a good ole batt pull and see if the settings and or problem remain.
I found the problem. I have a few ringtones I downloaded onto my SD card. When the phone is plugged into my computer, it doesn't see those and uses the default ones from the device memory.
