9360 broken trackpad wipe

hi guys im a newbie here so please be kind :p

i have a curve 9360 and the trackpad will click but not scroll, ive tried all kinds of "fixes" battery pulls ect..to no avail so unfortunately it will have to go in for repair.

The problem is id like to wipe the phone of all my data before sending it in and obviously with the trackpad being broken i cant get to security wipe on the actual device.

So what i was wondering is ive seen about jl_cmder and being able to "reset to factory" in the program via the computer, is this option the exact same as security wiping with the option on the device? will it clear ALL data on the device, bbm contacts, history,pictures, emails ect...

A possible fix to ive heard is that i can "wipe" the device entirely with either jl_cmder or bbsak and install a different OS which i think i may try before sending it in, if i "wiped" the device with either of them programs and installed a new OS will that make all the data ect.. erased on the device and leave it like a brand new phone again. P.S i dont want to back up my data as its not really important so will a fresh install of a new OS clear everything to?

I would suggest that you use BBSAK to wipe your device. Take a look at our guide here and skip to the section that talks about wiping device memory. Then just reload that an OS without backing up or restoring your data. You can find an OS for the Curve here: 9860/9850 Torch - Downloads - BlackBerryOS.com Hope this helps.

So you have Curve 9360 right? Hmm.. I agree with Sir ice2921 , use BBSAK to wipe your device and re-load the OS.

thanks for the replies guys so if i wipe with bbsak and then update the os with desktop manager but choose not to back anything up it will install the updated os and delete any old data and databases ect.. on the phone from before? Just want to make sure it makes the device 100% "clean" and like new out of the box

hello guys an update for you i loaded bbsak and chose the factory reset then i chose wipe - it then loaded on my phone to error 507 which is the no OS error. i downloaded the latest update for my carrier direct from blackberry and then using desktop manager i installed the updated OS. but when i was updating i chose not to back up the data as i wanted it wiped. Now its installed but when it boots its got the blackberry terms and conditions page open on boot which i obviously cant scroll to accept because of the broken trackpad. but does that mean EVERYTHING of my data has been deleted and the phone will be stock with full factory settings behind the terms screen? Just want to make sure no data is on it before i send it off.

Yes and to be sure you can always perform another security wipe from your security options and check all the options.

thanks but im unable to do the security wipe from the options as i cant get past the terms and conditions pop up when the phone starts due to the trackpad being broke

You should be able to use BBSAK to wipe it.

is that the wipe option or the factory reset? the wipe option deletes the os then id have to reload the os wouldnt i? i havent got a problem ding that because its easy enough, does that clear all data?

You can just do a factory reset.

ok ive done that and its booted back up to the terms and conditions screen does that sound like its wiped?

Yes its clean, there will be no contacts, bbm contacts and email etc.....just like the day you got it fresh in the box.

great stuff thanks does that also clear out any old media on the device like music and downloads ect?

A wipe, done either by desktop manager apploader, BBSAK or other 3rd party software will only wipe the phones internal memory, also called device memory and sometimes also labeled as on device memory.

Your external memory is ur Micro SD Card, the wipe will not affect this, whatever pictures, mp3s, videos you stored on SD will remain untouched. I'f you did do a backup of your BBM contacts from your phone to your SD card previously, this info will also remain as is. The simple thing to do is to remove your SD and SIM card also before sending for repairs. Also any contacts info saved to sim card is not affected during wipe.

yeah the sim and the sd were removed when i did the wipe with bbsak so all the internal pictures contacts memos ect will all be gone? thanks for your reply so far

Just a side note, If you want to wipe the media card you can do that in the wipe options.
