Thread: hey guys i'm new to these things

i got an 8220 pearl from a friend, he had this phone not in use for some time and the battery died, now i'm trying to charge the phone but it won't power on. not even a red light please help.

Hi bradtech and welcome to

Try this first. If you have Q-tips, gently wipe the contacts on the battery and phone. If no Q-tips, us a clean pencil eraser, and don't forget to be gentle.
If this doesn't work, and don't be surprised if it doesn't, you'll need a new battery. Make sure that it is a battery made for a blackberry, not a cheaper knock-off from ebay. Those batteries do not work and are a waste of good money. If you have another blackberry or have a friend with one, try that battery to see if your pearl works. I'm sure it will, just getting a new battery will get you up and running.
Now, once you get it up and running, you'll need a blackberry data plan from a local carrier in your area that sells phones that uses SIM cards.
