Unknown PIN does not come up

    Hi

When trying to complete the Thread "how to recover a nuked BB" I get all the way till where it says plug in the BB and click next when UNKNOWN PIN comes up.

However my PIN shows immeadiatly and when clicking "next" the correct screen comes up but says my desktop software does not have any operating system. i know i have it on my PC could someone help me to "move" it or check where the OS should be to make the PC able to "see" the OS?

You need to make sure that you only have the OS you want to install, installed on your desktop. And that all vendor xml files have been deleted. Sometimes there are two that need deleted. See here for more on how to delete them... How To search for & delete your vendor.xml file.

have Storm. Not looking for latest. when trying to reload a 'nuked" BB as per the thread with pictures i dont get the correct screen. it says my desktop software does not have an OS on it thus cannot install. how do i add an OS to the desktop software. that is the real issue as per the first post. Check the thread "How to fix a nuked BB with pictures" says go to Apploader, click loader then click next when "UNKNOWN" appears. My PIN does appear and when I go next its says that instead of giving me check boxes to install the OS that is on the desktop software.

    Cheers

To add a OS to the desktop software you need to download the OS to your computer and then you will click on the OS installer to install that OS to your computer. Once installed the Desktop Manager software or Loader.exe will recognize that OS.

And be sure to uninstall any OS' that you don't want to install by going to Control Panel... Programs...

    cool

right. Got the right screen to come up. I deleted another version after I downloaded the software from this site and the phone starts loading although it stops half way through and does not connect. It did the download software bit, then says recconecting to JVM but the green loader stripe just hangs and eventually it PC gives a red cross and says unable to connect.

how do i sort out the JVM (?) bit now. Im a lot closer to fixing the phone than I was yesterday though!!!!

    or is the phone bust?

well jiggs that's a big problem. you can try two methods. 1. run the loader without the jvm. It will take a little longer because the loader will bypass the jvm when it connects to the Arm. the steps to run with no jvm are on the first part of this thread here http://www.blackberryos.com/resource...oader-exe.html Second, you can try a force detect. the instructions are as follows. (make sure you have both the Desktop software and the device software installed that you are wanting to load)

the following are for a force detect using the apploader. not loader.exe

    1. Remove the battery from the back of the BlackBerry Smartphone.
    2. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a USB cable.
    3. Once prompted to Retry, Update or Cancel, click Update. If available updates are found Desktop Manager will prompt you to Get Update, Update Later or View other versions
    4. Click Get Update to install the recommended software version or View other Versions to manually select the version you wish to install and click Install.
    5. In the Update Options screen you have the option to enter your email address to be notified in future when there may be new software versions available.

    a. fill in the check box and enter your email address in the text field if you wish to receive email notifications
    b. uncheck the check box and leave the text field blank if you do not want to receive updates.

    6. Reinsert the Battery which was removed in step 1
    7. Click Install Update

And finally check your device info. Is the pin showing up as just a bunch of F's? ex; FFFFFFF
If you have the pin showing a bunch of f's then its an unrecoverable Hardware failure and the os will not be able to be reloaded, the device would need to be replaced.

Hope this steers you in the right direction, post back if you need more help.
