Thread: Yet another email sync question - help me!

Here's what I have:

I have multiple emails coming to my BB:
1) Yahoo (-which, my personal website email is forwarded through - free use of their spam filter that way. HA!)
2) Gmail (rarely used)
3 & 4) Two work emails

My employer has BES, but I am not currently using it. It's a small company and the only ones currently using it are the owners. The "IT guy" is one of these owners and not the sharpest... thinks Verizon controls the email accounts set up to use BES. So, I've entered my two work email accounts to use BIS. I've only recently set this up. I entered the email addresses through Email Settings, Add a new Account, Other - and just typed in my email address and password and (voila) it worked. If I look under Advanced Settings for the two email accounts, it lists an OWA page (http://mail.companyname.com/exchange) - but if I load that up on a browser, it doesn't work.

I have two work emails because I have one for my personal name (shudson) and one for a common name (shipping). Both come to my Outlook on my desktop - "shipping" through Exchange and "shudson" is set up as POP/SMTP.

I have a cradle on my desktop and I sync to Outlook using DM for organizer data. I do not have the box ticked to sync messages. I also have Autosync for Yahoo installed on my work desktop to keep my Outlook at Yahoo calendars in sync.

I have message redirection set up in DM. I have "forward incoming messages to my device" ticked. I also have the checkbox ticked that says "turn off message redirection when my device is connected to my computer".

Currently, work emails are being delivered to my BB even when in the cradle/pod. I do not want this to happen. I get them on both my BB and my Outlook from both the exchange account (shipping) and my POP account (shudson).

I get those RIM messages that say:

This message is used to carry data between the BlackBerry handheld and an associated server. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the server.

The latest one came to my shipping email account - the one on Exchange - which was then forwarded to my BB, even though it is in the cradle.



Here is how I want my BB to behave:

I only keep mail on my BB if I need to do something about it and only until I do something about it. I strive to keep my inbox empty on my BB. Messages that I need to save are only saved on my desktop (or in the case of yahoo mail, in my yahoo folders). I'm always reading and then deleting from device or deleting from both.

I do not want work email to appear on my BB when my BB is connected to my work computer via the cradle. (Maybe this isn't possible since I have two - maybe only the exchange account can do this?)



Obviously what I have is wrong. What settings SHOULD I have?

Let me try to suggest a couple of things. Sounds like there are some filters that may need to be incorporated to these work related accounts.I'm under the impression that you are with VZW because of the IT Guy statement. Are you familiar with logging into your BIS account from your PC browser? If not here's the link.

Now mind you that the BIS server has been experiencing issues today.

So what I would do is to call the VZW CSR and have them help you set up the login if you have not already created one. I could not create one the first time through my handset nor on PC so I have always suggested this to people. I have heard of others having success on their own. The number is 800-922-0204. Follow the promts and you will be directed to a CSR that will be able to set up those filters to configure how you would like the mail to be handled.

I don't think you will have access for an OWA account through the BB. That is besides the point though. Once the VZW CSR has entered you information about the two work related accounts, you should then have access to the filter/edit functions by logging into BIS account.

Maybe these will be some first steps for you. If this is old news for you, please let us know and someone here at BBOS will be here to help.

Uninstall and reinstall you're DM when reinstalling set it for personal email I will bet now you have 6 icons when you open DM you should only have 5 for bis 6 is for bes. Sorry I am sending this from my bb and can't read what I'm writing. But that will stop the do not delete emails. If you have any questions bbm me at 304edfc0

By the way any account you set on the bis on you're bb will still come thru on both. No way I know of to stop that.

I haven't felt like waiting on hold for a CSR yet... Will have to do that soon I think. Couldn't get the online login to work. It said I had an account already, but then when I used my PIN to request my user ID, it said that I didn't have an account. WHEE!


I did go ahead and uninstall DM and reinstall (this time with the leaked 5.0 version) - and yes, now I have 5 icons instead of 6.

Yeah...Until you are able to Login to the BIS, you can't create the profiles that you are seeking. I've never had to wait more than 5 min. May be worth your time.

Okay - so I'm set up with BIS online now.

I don't see how to set the filters to do what I want.

My current work around is to shut off those email accounts on my BB when I'm at work and turn it back on when I'm leaving. So, the question still remains...

I just talked to my IT guy who runs our BES. So the BES looks at your PIN. If this is the case then 1 BES account to one device. I'm trying to get my head around how the BES would know first off your device is cradled secondly how the BES would route the mail when it knows the device is cradled. I know what you asking the server/device to do as far as recognizing the difference in your status. I'm just not sure that it can be done. It seem to me that you are either going to receive the mail or your not.

Sorry...but that's all I got. I will ask others for their opinions on your situation.

It's just that I noticed (when I mistakenly had BES installed in DM without using BES on the phone) that there was a checkbox to not forward emails when connected to the PC (in the cradle).

But if there is a rule of one BES account per BB, then it wouldn't work anyway.


Hmmm.... I saw a program recently that changes your sound profiles based on system time. I wonder if there is something similar for retrieving emails only between certain hours?
