The biggest benefit of BES in my opinion is the instant email delivery. There's a lag w. the BIS...sometimes not much but I think it can be up to 10min. You can achieve the same synchronization w. a standard gmail account (google sync will sync your calendar/contacts, but not tasks) over the air, in addition to syncing your email. The downside is that it's not as quick as the BES.

My password still has a little lock on it and will not permit me to disable the password. I removed the BES like BBC instructed. Any help would be much appreciated.
who is your carrier? and did your work place remove you from the system?

Perfect! i have been looking for some information regarding connection to a BES and here i finally found some answers. I was wondering what essentially are the benefits of being connected to the BES at all! I can get my email account attached to my BB anyway. My frustrations come from the fact that i have my own BB and i have had it connected to the BES at work, but i have found that i cannot upgrade somethings without the IT guy being involved (i.e the OS), plus for some silly reason i cannot PIN anyone outside of those also connected to the BES. I am seeking some answers and ideas as I will be getting a new BB very soon and i am wondering the about whether or not i should allow my work to connect it to the BES. Anything anyone has to say would be helpful, thanks!:aargh4:
Sounds like your BES Admin has those things you mentioned locked down. Nothing you can do about it. On one hand, with BES you'll have your email and calendar synced wirelessly, but on the other hand, you'll have a tougher time installing OS's and dealing with the restrictions if you stay with BES. Without BES, you won't have those restrictions, but you won't have your email and calendar synced wirelessly.

Thanks! I think I will stay off the BES. No one at work uses the BB properly anyway. The calendar isn't used for anything, I ise it for everything. Thanks for the advice!

Okay so i thought i was off the BES. but when i go to try and upgrade my OS to 5.0 it tells me the administrator has to do it!? I just want my phone back! i have the BIS for the email set up and running. I read the previous info on deleting everything marked Desktop. Will that give me my permissions back and get me off the BES for sure? Also the IT guy is telling me the problem with the BIS is that a computer has to be on at all times? a work computer or the data carrier??
Try this, go to Options > Security > General. At the bottom look for Services:. Do you see anything listed under that?
