Thread: Curve 8520.....dead....?

Hi, please can someone help!!

I've read through the forum trying to find a solution, at first I thought my Blackberry was nuked but I'm not sure now...

My contract ended so removed the sim and put a new one in. This was an old pay as you go that has now been disconnected so it didn't work. I removed that sim too and put in another. The phone would not turn back on. I finally managed to get a bit of life which was the red light and the white screen with the hourglass (briefly). This only happened once. Now the only way to get any signs of life is when I connect it to my pc. The red light comes on for a while....then goes off....then NOTHING. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a nuked phone. Have you tried pulling the battery out for a minute and then putting it back in to see if you can get more life out of it. Check out this thread to help you out... http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/b...-pictures.html

Yeah I tried removing the battery....several times :irked: I followed the steps in the link you gave me and after clicking next after USB-PIN: UNKNOWN I get the message

'The Blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or network administrator'

I'm guessing there's something I need to do first before I can get any further, but I don't know what!!

Just now when the blackberry was connected to the pc without the battery the screen lit up with a crossed out battery in it...so at least I know something's working!!

Ok, I've installed the OS onto my pc and can now get further on the process....it completes 'Load JVM and system software' but when it gets to 'wait for device initialization' after a few minutes I get an error message saying that the App loader was unable to connect to the device. No amount of re-connecting and re-trying helps!!

This is an absolute pain! Any ideas?

You will need to install an operating system for your device onto your computer.

There are many great tutorials, here and on other sites, that can walk you through installing a new os to your device.

I've installed the OS already....it just keeps trying to reconnect and says that the device is not connected to the computer when it is :17:

Have you wiped the device first using a tool such as BBSAK. And try loading the software with the tool 'ShrinkAos', was it locked? If so the Sim problebly caused the "nuking". I had this with someones nuked 8520 Gemini, they upgraded and tried to use another PAYG sim and it nuked it. I had to do a Forced USB to get it to connect then wiped it, and installed OS. The major hurdle is getting it to connect to PC. See the how to guides as mentioned above for guidence notes for doing these proceedures here. Sorry I can't be more help at present, but this is not incurable. Good luck
