Some questions about BB device & OS

Hi everyone, I have some questions to ask.

1- I am trying to update my BB OS. Do I have to use the same OS that was released for my service provider or can I use any other service provider OS? Because I found newer OS version from other service provider for my BB model.

2- What are the differences between OSs from different service provider if they are the same version and same languages?

3- If I install another service provider OS on my BB does that lock or unlock the BB, change the vendor ID, add that service provider logo, change any settings or any thing like that.

4- How can I know from what service provider is my current installed OS?

5- My vendor ID is different than my service provider ID, does that matter?

6- What is "branding version" and can it be changed?

1. No you do not. All that matters is that its for the correct device.

2. Nothing at all.

3. No to all.

4, 5, 6. I will have to check. I don't know off hand.

Thanks for the help…

Now that I can use any service provider's OS how can I find the latest official OS for my BB model (9000 & 9700) or do I have to go to each service provider page and compare the OS versions then download the latest.

Is there any place that can tell me what is the latest OS version for each BB model and from which service provider it been released?

What specific device you have does matter. Is it a 9000 or 9700? The latest official 9000 os can be found here. And the latest official 9700 os, here. Welcome to the forums!

i've got a problem

pls i'm having problems getting where to download the os for a blackberry bold 9650, and also the same phone is displaying error code 523, pls what should i do?

I have a problem. I tried upgrade my bbb 9700 to os 6 and it keeps stoping on "net_rim_bb_phone_resources.cod" and it dont move any further. i tried a number of times. i left it for a almost a day. i also tried other OS and all seem to freeze at the same point. can any one help

All the OS's are in the Download Tab above & I would wipe the phone and start from scratch. Follow the All In One Help Guide.
