    Can't install BlackBerry Desktop Manager

    Hello all,

Permit me to introduce myself. User name standeb. I am a Paralegal residing in Trinidad and Tobago, married and carry on my own business. I do hope that my relationship in your forum will be a cordial, enjoyable and respectfull one.

I have been using BlackBerry Curve 8520 over the last four months. I had it synced to my pc. Had a very recent clean reinstall done on my p.c. I have tried to reinstal the desktop manager from my cd but I get a message. "The wizard was interrupted before Blackberry could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time please run set up again".

I have searched my computer, scanned for virus and spyware and have found nothing, as well as nothing concerning blackberry therein. My system is clean. I run Windows XP Pro. SP3. I have all current updates. The installation just would not happen.

I shall be happy to receive your forums assistence with this problem for which I am indeed thankfull.

    standeb.

i would start by uninstalling your current version of DM and after that running a registry cleaner, CCCLeaner is a free one. and then re install.

Absolutely, and when you reinstall use the copy from their site, not the CD.

Thank you for the reply. May I add here that there is no installer. The files I found are orphaned in the registry. I am weary about deleting them off the bat as I might be in more trouble after that. Please advise me with respect to what steps to take to have them properly deleted and whther after deleting them whether I should go to the task manager to end the task and what should I look for there.?

    Your kind attention will oblige.

After uninstalling DM, DO NOT manually edit your registry, that is better lerft to professionals. Instead, download CCCleaner from a trusted source, preferably the authors site, and perform a registry cleaning. Make sure you download the Desktop Manager from RIMs website, Smartphones, Cell Phones & Smart Phones at BlackBerry.com , this should give you a clean install.

    Hello adperdue

Thanks for your reply. However you may have inadvertently missed it when I said that there was no installer. That's gone. There are files orphaned in the registry. That was caused by a disturbance during the uninstall of the Deskto Manager. Can you advise how to properly remove these files from the registry.

    Thanking you in advance.

May I suggest downloading DM right from RIM,s website and installing it now. You may get a popup that asks if you want to repair or uninstall. Try repair and see if that helps. If not, install again then choose delete and start from scratch.

After running cccleaner those orphaned fragments should have been removed by the junk cleaner, if not then the registry entry's have been removed and it is safe to remove the orphaned files by hand. Download the current version of DM from RIMs site and start the installer. Repair if that option is available, install if not. Let me know how that works for you.

    Can't install BlackBerry Desktop Manager

    Hello adperdue,

Thank you so much for your reply with instructions.

I got rid of the orphaned files manually, used Ccleaner, downloaded the desktop manager but the installation failed. Now I have to seek other options and I don't seem to have many if at all. My work has started to suffer for the the lack of expedition.

I shall be happy and grateful for your comments and/or suggestions.

    Thanks again.

Do you have any other computer issues besides this one? I know it's a long shot, but maybe a fresh Windows install would fix the issue.

    Can't install BlackBerry Desktop Manager

    Hello Dbone15,

Thank you for your reply/suggestion. I really was trying to avoid doing another clean install only after 2 weeks. It was in my mind but I felt that if I got every iota of the desktop manager out of the system I would have been able to reinstall the same successfully. It seems the clean install is inevitable.

I however I wish to thank all participants who replied to my post for their willingness to assist and I must say that it is refreshing to experience the prompt attention given by the moderators and members of the forum even though the suggestions did not work in this case. Keep up the good work. I shall be back to post the end result.

Thanks again and best regards to all of you.

    standeb.

Before doing the clean windown install, download the program "revo uninstaller". It has helped me get all registry files for a particular program out of my system in the past. Thanks.

Also, I assume your on XP right?

If that does not work I have a more involved process that is still better than a clean XP install.

    Hello Dbone 15 & Adperdue,

Much obliged to receive your posts and thank you so much for the same. Sorry I could not reply before but both your posts came in while the clean install was being done. dbone I happen to use Revo, Ccleaner among other programs and it seems that we think similarly.

adperdue Your post was indeed very educative and well worth saving for future use. I am sure something similar will come up at some point in time.

Both of you have shown great peronality and professionality at this forum and it is refreshing to know that there are persons like you who are really caring and it is with tremendous sincerity I thank you for your time and effort. Do keep up the good work.
The system works properly and the latest Desktop Manager has been installed.

    Best regards.

    Standeb.

dear adperdue, it is a long time over this thread but may be you can help me about my installation problem. ?

I am not able to install this desktop software in any conditions...

Firstly here is my computer config:
    win7 ultimate
    service pack 1
    always "run as administrator".
I had bold 9000 (OS5 - BIS) and and was using/syncing with desktop manger v5.0.1 without any problem over 2year.
3 days ago bought a new bold 9788(OS6 - BIS) and my nightmares started.
Firstly, existed DM start to crashing when I connect my phone. So I downloaded from blackberry web site v6.1version.
I read necessary forums before installing and made clean uninstall for previous DM as per stated ArticleID: KB02206
plus as a medium tech savvy I run registry cleaner program to clean leftovers as I did for my all unistalls. so far noany problem about uninstall process.
when i run the installer installation starts but afterwhile it comes error 1316(a network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\installer\blackberry desktop software.msi) and installation stops androlling back process.
after that i read all the forums related 1316 error but as now no any solutions. I can't install this software to mycomputer.
here is the list of the procedures i followed so far, but i would like to remind after each installation attempt, Iuninstalled together with complete uncleaning process including with registires and all "research in motions"folders that created during installations and countless reboots.
here is the folders I deleted each time:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\research in motions
    C:\ProgramData\research in motions
    C:\Program Files\research in motions
in some forum manetioned another folder might be created under C:\users\****\appdata\roaming\ -but I dont found any RIM file or folder in this section.

here is the resolutions that i followed so far.
1.) all 4 resolutions explained in Article ID: KB04272
2.) used windows installer clean up app. for uninstall.
3.) i placed "desktop software.msi file inside of the C:\windows\installer folder.
4.) i run setup.exe file from extracted zip file.
5.) deleted registries from registry editor by searching ne by one.
    6.) registered alt.dll for re-installs.

as I can see from the forum pages error 1316 is problem for who want to uninstall software. i just want to install latest desktop software and use my new phone and sync my contacts.
can you please check and let me know if you have any experience how to overcome about this problem ?
    many thanks in advance.
