DM and an upgrade
When you do an upgrade to your phone OTA- what happens when you connect it to the DM that has the old OS on it? Do I have to download the new os and install that first? I know that this might seem like a dumb question to most of you - but I never upgraded anything but official ones and don't remember what I did the last time. In fact I think with the Storm 1 there was no OTA upgrade available so it wasn't an issue.:duh:
-
just remove any os you may have installed in your pc and your should be good to go, nothing needed to be done
-
Thank you and for the quick reply too. Going to do that now.
-
Uh-oh - another question. I went into my pc programs to delete the old os and don't see it there. I have Blackberry Desktop software 5.0.1 and Blackberry Media Sync. Is it listed as something else?
-
Was your previous OS a leak or official? Most leaks won't show up in your pc programs.
-
It was the version that came on my Storm 2. I never upgraded it til now. lol I know- you guys switch os's like changing underwear. The thought of bricking my phone scares me to death. lol
-
I don't even have a phone :P I do all of this off of memory (I haven't had one for nearly a year...)
Anyhow, you looked your pc programs up and down? Also, I don't know that the CD that comes with the blackberry contains that OS on it? So odds are if it isn't included on that CD then you don't have an OS installed on your computer. When you plug your phone in, does it show another OS?
-
It didn't show anything about the OS. I checked all the programs and files I could think of and didn't find it either- However I did a back up with DM and everything went fine- so I don't know, maybe I didn't have it on there since that OS came on the phone.
BTW-what did you do to your phone that you don't have on now?

Stand by there maddie1128,
I'm going to put together a couple of screenshots for you to check to see what you have listed as an OS on your PC.
-
So what we want to do first is to open your Desktop Manager without your device connected to it.
Then I would like you to move your cursor over the "Help" Link at the top right of Desktop Manager. Then select the link one time. You should see the following.

Now select "About Blackberry Desktop Manager"
From here lets select the tab to the most right labled "Device Software".

If you have an OS downloaded to your PC then it will show up here.
Do you have an OS listed in the "Device Software" screen?
-
No- it just has the word software there.
-
Okay then .....
Looks like you do not have an OS loaded to your PC.
Which OS would you like to install to your device?
-
I installed the .607 on my phone yesterday OTA- and was concerned about hooking it up to DM cuz I didn't know what would happen if I had another version on my computer somewhere. Told ya - I don't know the first thing about doing this stuff! lol
-
Then...You are good to go.
Your profile indicated that you were using OS: 5.0.0.320 so now that you are on .607 then you have the latest OS that is publicly out for that device.
Even if you had an OS installed to your PC, Desktop Manager would prompt you to update/downgrade/upgrade before any action was taken.

Oh. Okay- that is what I needed to know! Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out. Little by little you guys are teaching me and giving me confidence to do more and more with my blackberry! I think that is awesome.
