Thread: Music much louder on right speaker then left when BB plugged into car?

I am having an issue where I can use my BB Tour in my car using a 3.5mm hack output and the music plays fine, but its dramatically louder coming from the right speaker, and the left speaker is extremely dim.

Does anyone have a clue what this could be related to? Its happening with both stock and beta software. When I plug my phone in with headphones, everythings perfectly fine. However when I plug an ipod or recently a droid into my car, those both worked flawlessly.

Any help would be extremely great. Thank you.

Welcome to ! Sounds like the hack you are using doesn't work as intended.

The hack? I am using a 3.5mm wire from the blackberry to the car aux in on the front of the unit.

You called it a hack... I suspect it's either a bad jack, or not the matching up with the rings correctly. Would have to try some other jacks to see if it works or not.

What are you plugging into the 1/8" jack? A cassette adapter? A 1/8" to 1/8" cable? I'd think the cable is bad, or like Sunkast said; the 1/8" plug itself (or in the case of a cassette adapter, the adapter itself)

Also, I believe the BB's headset jack is designed for a 3-pole wire, so if the 1/8" plug only has 2 rings it might not work correctly

Oh wow spelling mistake there lol. Sorry. The jack thats plugged into the blackberry is a 3 ring 3.5mm plug, like a headphone plug, that plugs the other end of the wire into a AUX jack in the stereo unit. The stereo plug is identical on both sides, one goes in the blackberry, the other in the head unit. Everything but my blackberry works with it. I have changed cables, changed software, and exchanged my phone. No go on anything. But ipods and zunes both work perfectly.

Have to agree with Sunkast. Anytime your having trouble with speakers where a jack is concerned, 9 times out of 10 the jack is pooched. More than likely in the wires leading into the jack itself. I have yet to find a jack that will last more than a year in that area.

If you are having troubles with only the blackberry I would try pluggin it into someone elses car and see if you get the same issue. If not you have then eliminated one of the problems and go back to the the cable and head unit. What I believe it to be is that you have a stereo jack for this, when in reality you need to have a stereo plus mic jack for the blackberry because there are 3 different connections in there.. mic, left and right speaker.

Interesting, I will try this in my brothers truck when I see him later to see if mine has an issue there. He uses his Tour in his truck fine so we will see if its my tour if I try it there.

Alright, so I tried my phone in my brother truck, and it worked fine. On the flip side he tried his tour in my car, and it worked fine LOL, so my tour works fine in his truck, weirdly in my car, and his works fine in both. We are both sporting the same OS too.

Any other idea's that may cause this before I have someone tear apart my dash to change the cable again?

did you use the same cord or different cords?

Do you have any audio settings on the tour set different than he does?

I used my cord in both his truck and my car. in his truck my phone and his phone work perfectly. In my car, with the same cable, my phone is really loud out of the right side, and his is not. Tonight I backed up both of our devices and did a factory reset on both. Still has the same problem, but both work fine in his truck.

I am beginning to think its my phone and car receiver. I have no idea.

Me either. I am thinking maybe I should just get the blackberry bluetooth visor thing. I liked having the wire because I felt that would give the best possible quality and the last time I used one of those FM broadcast things it always had some sort of static in the background. Would it do me justice to go pay and have the wire changed again or just get the bluetooth device for 65?

i wold just go bluetooth if your receiver will do it

The blackberry bluetooth device I am talking about it a visor mount that broadcast the phones calls and sound over the fm radio. You think this is the best option? Will there be a huge quality loss this way vs the wire?

I dont like FM modulators. unless they hard wire into the head unit. I would look into a bluetooth that would hardwire into the back of your head unit be it through the antenna or through the speaker wire. that is my opinion.

I didnt even know they sold hard wire bluetooth devices. I wish I could get my wire to work.

If you get anything get the Blackberry Stereo gateway if your going to go wireless for audio output from your BB to your Car speakers.... I was going to say check your car's equalizer and make sure that your balance isn't favoring one side but if your brothers tour works fine in your car than thats not it.


BB Stereo Gateway

Yeah I am actually using the balance to make it correct for the time being, but its painfully low volume. When I make the balance normal its mostly the right speaker.

I may consider the gateway.
