A new, clean RSS Reader has entered the mix. This little baby does a fine job integrating with Google Reader. It provides users with a very straightforward interface which is also very simple to use. It gives you the main controls which drive an RSS reader; clear cache, download limit, image display and logout. Once you've provided your Google sign-in, Feeds locates all of your content in a flash and readies it all for your consumption. All of your RSS feeds are displayed in an easy readable manner.

It looks like RIM's marketing is still hard at work trying to promote the BlackBerry Torch. A new BlackBerry Torch commercial has popped up on the BlackBerry YouTube page called "Courier and DJ - Love what you do". This commercial features the new WebKit browser showing how the tabs feature work. The ad also features the built in Media Player highlighting the playlists.

There has been a buzz going on around Twitter for awhile about a new twitter application called 'Blaq' (@Blaq). Blaq has been in privite beta for a few months now and has entered this years Super Apps Developer contest. According to their website "It is a feature-rich Twitter client for BlackBerry that brings the best of all worlds with the functionality you need, but also the stunning visuals that you’ve always yearned for."

According to Research In Motion's twitter account (@BlackBerry) Tuesday, they have reached "10,000 apps strong and growing".

It's not clear if themes were in the final count or not, but this number still pales in comparison to the sheer number of apps that are currently available in the Android and iPhone storefronts. Certainty this does mark a major milestone for RIM. I'm sure they know there is quite a road ahead of them to catch up to their competitors.

A few days ago rumors were circulating that RIM had gobbled up DataViz - the developer of Documents To Go. If you recall, this is the software which enables the viewing and editing of documents on the BlackBerry and other smartphones. Rumors no more, as RIM had released a statement quoting "RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform." Although no official terms or monetary figures were released, the earlier rumors had stated a figure of approximately $50 million being the cost of the acquisition.

Verizon has pushed out My Verizon v5.0. I was never a big user of this app because to me it was VERY limited and the UI was lacking in functionality.
