Wipe a storm without wiping APPS!!!
DISCLAIMER: Repeating these steps may or may not yield the same result.
Ok guys, not sure if this is a fluke or not but decided to throw it out there for people to try and perfect.
I was about to try installing Oneofakindpc's hybrid after being disappointed with the v7 versions, and was about to do a wipe with JLCmdr.
I proceeded like normal putting all of the info the program needs to wipe the phone.
After it connected, (where the screen turns red on the program) i remembered i didnt back up my 3rd party apps since i had reloaded my computer. So i hurried and hit close on the window. My phone then rebooted a few seconds later, and when it came up all of my regular apps were asking permissions just like as if i had got done reloading my backup. This is quite awesome if it turns out to work well, and maybe the makers of jlcmdr can put an option for wiping without wiping apps.
Everything else, however seems to have been wiped liek normal. All settings back to default, no messages contacts etc. Will update with more info once i get the new OS running.
Edit: Also wanted to include that i DID NOT have to reload an OS to get the phone back up and running like normal, so apparantly it does not fully wipe the phone. But could definitely come in handy.

Thanks trunk. Sounds a little risky though. It will probably leave fragments of things behind which could build up and cause things to not work smoothly. The advantage of wiping is that it gets rid of everything so you have a clean & fresh slate.
But definitely let us know how it goes. Some users might want to try it.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACKUP......lol

I agree with Nate. The whole point of JL is to wipe your phone clean. But not wiping your apps off there is no doubt there are other fragments or pieces of OS that were not cleared as well. I doubt you will see JL issue such a program. Because in actuality the correct way to wipe is to wipe everything off then add your 3rd party apps back manually to prevent directories from becoming corrupt over time.

JL probably has a sequence of steps and just started to wipe...and you just interrupted at a certain stage....I would not suggest repeating the process

Wirelessly posted (storm 9530)
I don't see the point. It sounds like it'll cause more trouble then its worth.

That was an interesting outcome.
But like everyone stated before... I don't see anything good coming from this.
There's nothing that will drive me more nuts that having my Storm going all buggy on me, due to corrupted files from an improper wipe (had that happen a couple of times).

this kind of wipe can be done on your blackberry. options>security options>general settings>blackberry key>wipe handheld. It will have a box to check if you want to erase 3rd party apps. after wiping its like right out of the box, if you left 3rd party unchecked you will still have 3rd party apps. It wont be .75 out of the box but whatever os you installed

As I recall you can wipe your phone while saving the Apps by going to Options/Security Options/General Settings then the BB Key and select Wipe Handheld. There is an option popup that asks if you want to save the 3rd Party Apps before doing the wipe. I have only done this once, several months ago, but it may require DM to save the apps (a little fog here).

That doesn't wipe your OS though. Only your data files. To totally wipe you need to do the Security Options wipe then a JL/BBSAK wipe.
Yes, the Security Options wipe is essentially what the OP did to his phone.

May seem risky yes, hence the disclaimer, but i have yet to have a single problem with my phone after doing this. What are the chances that i happened to interrupt it RIGHT after it finished wiping apps? very slim i have to say at the very most. I didnt write this post for everyone to go out and try it, just thought it may be useful in some way for developers to add in an option for app removal only on a similar program.

Right but its not the same.. you would have to see it to konw what i mean. im aware of the wipe option in the menu :P
Though it does have a similar effect i still think developers should give more options as far as wiping/restoring since backups are kind of a pain, its like reloading a computer with a bad image just to get your contacts and things back.

Every time I wipe my phone I can save my 3rd party apps, contacts, memos are deleted....etc. But my modules stay the same. How do I do a true wipe of my phone?

I would suggest you back everything up (including 3rd party apps), then do the following: options>security options>general settings>blackberry key>wipe handheld,
Followed by either JL_Cmdr or BBSAK wipe....then load desired OS.
Many people noticed that the phone behaves much better after a security wipe

I've done the security wipe and you are correct, my phone did behave better and loaded up 42, but I do not have enough apps on my phone, to be loading up that low. I have tried JL_Cmdr, but having issues with vista.

Have you tried BBSAK? It plays nice with Vista.
