5.0.0.90 leaked for the Bold

Wow, I was very shocked to get a PM from member 'Stiefler07' with this nice bit of information. Fantomberry has gotten their hands on the first leak for the 5.0 OS series. I would love to hear the pros and cons with this new OS. From what I have gathered after installing, it is a pain to downgrade back to 4.6. So do this with caution.

Resending your service books:

On phone: Options > Advanced options > Host Routing Tables > BB Menu Key > Register Now

Over the Web: BlackBerry - BlackBerry Internet Service Support

Pick North America or World Wide @ the top of the page.

Pick your Service Provider from the list on the page.

The OS is very fast, I get email and bbmessenger but not the browser.

After re-sending service book the browser still not works, same story for bolt and opera.

For everyone on the fence regarding making the jump to 5.0 here is a hands-on walk through of the us from Boy Genius. Think hard about making the jump because from what I've read going back to 4.6 is difficult.

My experience so far is that the Bold will hang a lot where the trackball is not moving and can not go to the main menu.

Then it re-boots.

Hope this is only a one time problem.

As for going back to OS 4.6, I think that by doing a WIPE on your phone, you should be able to get back easily enough. Just make sure that you have a back up of your devise before installing 5.0

I'm having a small issue with the browser. I have the medianet and wi-fi browsers but not the 3g browser. I have tried deleting and resending service books but no luck....

dial *22899, if that dont work turn your network off under manage connections, reboot phone and turn network back on

thats one of the problems everyone is having, including myself. so far i havnt found a fix and havnt heard of one as of yet

A number of fellow Bolders report problems w/browser, apps, etc.; all of which indicate we need extreme caution. I was (fortunately?) unable to install. I kept getting "Fatal Error Try Again" messages. Any suggestion as to what may cause that? I had anti-virus and firewall turned off.

I think that I may go back to 4.6. Just too many programs will not work and I need them to work.

When they release the next 5.0 version, I will see what the comments are and try it if these issues are fixed.

Real Bummer but life goes on.

This is a known problem. Nothing having an advanced software and nothing works on it. Wait that's pretty par for the course with RIM
