4.7.0.151 COLOR BANDING IS GONE!! A Detailed Review in Progress by:The.Perfect.Storm
4.7.0.151 COLOR BANDING IS GONE! Detailed Review in Progress by "The.Perfect.Storm"
*** UPDATED INFORMATION: *** Looks like Shrink a OS works very well with this release.
Testing six units in all. Three units are 9530's and 3 units are 9500's. 2 of the units were loaded shrinking the OS with Shrink a OS and they are both running very strong still. The 9530 has had 0 mem loss and the 9500 less than 1/8 Mb! Both are still in the 46 MB range and running strong, fully loaded!
Looks like we may have a winner on this OS.
Hello everyone at BBOS!
Well first off, let me answer that one question that everyone want to know.... Hum, hum, hum, can we guess what it would be:
COLOR BANDING; Is it still present?
Well the answer to that question is: No
Finally a build that has broken the color banding barrier since the birth and origination of the .90 sfi. Color Banding is not visible; and if you feel that it is, you must have got out your microscopes cause this is the absolute best color I have ever seen on a BlackBerry Storm since the .90 sfi rolled out!
Now to make this even better; I find myself longing for a hybrid that will surely make this the true device that it was intended to be. What hybrid would be worthy of such a truly defined device? a BBC Hybrid of course!
First off, I would like to show my support to the BBOS team, BBC, and the community by posting the following:
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____
Ok BBC,
We are all counting on you!
With all of the past sucesses in the latest and greatest hybrid builds put out by BBC, you have to ask yourself. Will this be the one?
Ok, we all know the answer to that question.
Ever since the birth of the Blackberry Storm, BBC has been commited to providing us with the best possible hybrid builds with outstanding performance and the latest technology in hand. "BBC has never left us out there alone with questions unanswered" was quoted from a very dedicated member of the BBOS community. BBC constantly strives to build quality builds and commited to perfecting an OS that some have left us feeling abandoned.
Hopefully with this new leak BBC will be able to once again perfect a hybrid that will take us further down our road of unity, as we all strive for that "Gold Code" that just seems to be out of reach.
BBOS, without you, and your knowledgeable and supportive staff, we would have nowhere to look to, for answers to our questions, and for that excellent community feeling we get everytime that we hit that great and longed for url: BlackberryOS
Cmon BBC, We have another mountain to tackle, but with you at the helm, we need to fear not.
BBOS and us support you 150%.
The.Perfect.Storm

Now to get down to the details; This seems to be the Absolute Best Build to date. Whether by mistake or not, in the release from an undisclosed source, so far into the testing process I cannot understand why the former official release would have been put into place when this one is by far so much more, in terms of what we are looking for in our Storm devices.
Here are the details of the testing so far:
"Official 4.7.0.151 Testing in Progress Report"
__________________________________________________ ____________________________
Implementations, New Features, Positive / Negative Findings, Ongoing / Addressed Issues and Improvements will be addressed in Color Coded Format.
Blue Text will = Positives, New Features, & Improvements, & Acutely Noticeable Changes
Red Text will = Negatives, Work in Progress, & Ongoing Issues.
"Device Type(s) tested on"
9530 and 9500
"Base Software Version & Platform Utilized"
4.7.0.151
"Allocated Time Tested"
Since the First initial leak of 4.7.0.151 on a fully charged standard battery.
"Testing Stragety "
To ascertain the results of an 9530 and 9500 unit being used thru regular or normal conditional use in the course of a 24 hour period.
"Begin Of Testing Cycle"
00:00:00 Start
"Web Browsing "
Surfing the web feels like I'm on my pc at home!
"Operational Speed "
So Far the overall performance of the device surpasses any build to date
"Color Saturation"
The color is simply stunning and the absolute best that I have seen! After seeing the rich color detail of the screen compared to the .
.90 sfi and all other releases I don't want to test anymore! LoL, I just wanna surf and watch my videos! Really great color and detail.
"Color Banding"
GONE! This is the best quality picture that I have ever seen on either of these devices!!! I cannot put into words the detail of visual quality I see on a freshly installed device.
"Battery Life"
I have not noticed hardly any battery drain yet. Battery life is one of the most questionable things we all want to increase in our storms and so far I have not had any concerns of minor drains or leaks.
"Lockup's / Freezes / VSOD"
None! Running strong and smooth. No failures to report.
"Application Integration"
ALL of my 3rd Party apps work perfectly. Storm Slider, Quickpull, StopTilt, BofA, File Manager Pro, Forward w/Edit, PDF to Go, Forward w/Edit, Shazam, Kenny Powers, BBOS Launcher, Memory Manager, Battery Booster, Premium Doc to Go, Quicklaunch 1.5 and 2, Visual Voice Mail. In the past there have been some reports of certain third party applications causing memory leaks. Some severe and some not. This hybrid V7 has experienced no problems with any applications yet.
"Camera and Video"
Camera Speed is beyond belief. It is faster than all previous versions and works every time. 100 photos taken using the max resolution and no issues. We did not use the flash due to fear of depleting the battery cycle unfairly. 15 Videos were taken and played back with no issues. No freezes, unwanted lockups, reboots, or system hangs on camera usage or video usage. Playback was smooth, transitional, and for once exceptionally enjoyable.
"BES"
I am on BES with my company and it works flawlessly and punctually. Emails come in quick and decisive as they should. This is how BES should have always been from the beginning.
"Using DM 4.7 and 5.0"
I can do my back-up's and restores with DM 4.7 and 5.0 with no issues. Tested with two separate units for more accurate testing.
"Music Multimedia"
I Played a large variety of mp3's using the factory supplied ear buds and had no problems at all. The sound actually seems to be better than before. Music played back flawlessly!
"Video Multimedia"
Played seceral video clips and 1 movie. Crystal color depth. Color saturation is definitely better. Colors are crisp! Able to actually sit down comfortably and enjoy a video since the beginning of the Storm existence.
I have never seen this type of quality on the storm since the birth of the .90 sfi. So if you thought the .90 SFI was nice, wait till you see this one!
"Phone Operational Speed"
Phone operational speed is Lightning fast. There is really nothing more that could be said. It’s Just FAST. Even with several apps running and several emails going at the same time the phone was extremely fast and responsive. Current storm users happy with the last official release should fall in love with this one. You will be amazed by the noticeable feel of having a responsive mobile device.
"Loading from Card"
All of my pics and vids loaded and were picked up perfectly from my 16 gb card.
"Typing"
Experienced no lag! I sent many SMS, MMS, and emails and even while browsing the New and Improved web browser, I had no lag on any of the testing phases. Maybe they finally heard our cries and got this taken care of.
"Radio"
BEST SIGNAL STRENGTH. The radio is the best out yet. I did not experience any lost or dropped calls. Not one Kb of data loss. Then sound is crisp much clearer. Volume is louder. SIGNAL HOLDING STRONG at 5 bars all day long. Yes that is correct. 5 BARS. I have driven over 30 miles purposely going to those hard to get a signal areas and have not missed a bar yet.
"Accelerometer"
Best Accelerometer to date! Responsive, but not too responsive that it would change when you didn’t want it to change. No lag. Rotation response is absolute and immediate.
"Visual Voice Mail"
Well if you use it, it does work perfectly.
"Browser Speed"
Well if you were impressed by the new browsers out then you will really be impressed by this one! It's FAST. Very Fast. I loaded those hard to get websites in milliseconds.
"Memory"
Clean install with a clean boot resulted in 55MB at start up vs. 52MB before. Now keep in mind, this is BEFORE any applications were loaded. With all of the apps listed above running I am holding strong at 46MB. No Loss So Far. Memory is still reclaiming itself on program closure.
"Battery Pulls"
1 sixty second battery pull was done after the initial installation. The battery pull must be done no less than 60 seconds after install, for a good install. 0 battery pulls to date.
"QuickPull"
Works Perfectly!!!
"The Final Analysis so Far"
Why a carrier would release an official release just weeks prior when this was obviously available to them is beyond belief. This is by far the best build to date. I mean who could actually complain that color banding is now GONE!!! Remember it's still in the testing phase but so far everything looks to be very very good.

Perfect Storm. Nothing against your write up but I don't think you can really "test" an OS in only a matter of hours. I think in order to see true results behind the OS it needs a good day or two.

I totally agree with you 100%, That's why I labeled the subject line "A review in progress" and under the final analysis I put "Remember it's still in the testing phase but so far everything looks to be very very good."
Hey everyone,
Please remember it still in the testing phase folks so dont get too excited yet. As I stated in the review in progress everything looks very good so far but lets wait the full testing cycle to make sure what flaws if any appear.
Thanks BlackberryOS for pointing that out. I don't want anyone to misadverently feel that this is 100% without a complete testing cycle.
