Thread: Backup fails with DM 5.0.1.16

With all the swapping of my OS I am just recently starting to have a problem with my backup. My last good backup is over 2 weeks old (I don't like that.) This is after I have been trying to get 5.0.0.191 to work on my Storm. I gave up and went back to BBCrackman's v8.5. Since then my backup will get through all contacts, apps and messages. It fails when it gets to 'Backing up Device memory.' And then does a random reboot. I tried clearing the Browser cache, that did nothing for the problem.
Any ideas that don't require a wipe and reload are welcome. I have new contacts and messages that I want to save since my last good backup. So reloading is a very last resort.

I am not sure the exact answer, but I am sure one of the team members will be able to assist you while I look into this.

I'm still searching for answers on the web but I think I may be on to something. This also started since I installed the latest DM (5.0.1.16) I'm going back to DM 5.0.1 to see if that will resolve the issue. I will post my results soon.

Well no luck. Still have the same error, same reboot.
Does anyone know: If I use DM to clear my database device memory, what exactly am I clearing on the phone?

New note: When I go into my Backup Options and un-check 'Back up on-board device memory,' I get a successful backup.

one thing you could try is when you click on backup/restore click the advanced tab...on the right is you device memory.. copy the highlight things one by one and click the arrow that moves them to the left box.. do the things you absolutely need, contacts, calendar etc etc...on the top of the left you will see where it says file... click it and save as...what ever you want, you can also try to do everything there and see if it is successful, after that yes dreaded words security wipe and bbsak wipe and reload software... your device memory is more of your options and what not...ie-time zones, portrait keyboard.. if you really want the device memory back you can get it by going advanced and selecting file on the left side, use one of your older(prior to trying 5.0) backups and selecting just the device memory on the left and clicking the arrow to send it to the right, if you need this explained better please let me know.
