    Installation problem v6 / error 1316 / tried many resolutions so far but no installations !!!

    Dear all,
    this is my 3rd day that I spent in front of my computer and my mind start cracking.
    Firstly here is my computer config:
    win7 ultimate
    service pack 1
    always "run as administrator".
    I had bold 9000 (OS5 - BIS) and and was using/syncing with desktop manger v5.0.1 without any problem over 2year.
    3 days ago bought a new bold 9788(OS6 - BIS) and my nightmares started.
    Firstly, existed DM start to crashing when I connect my phone. So I downloaded from blackberry web site v6.1version.
    I read necessary forums before installing and made clean uninstall for previous DM as per stated ArticleID: KB02206
    plus as a medium tech savvy I run registry cleaner program to clean leftovers as I did for my all unistalls. so far noany problem about uninstall process.
    when i run the installer installation starts but afterwhile it comes error 1316(a network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\installer\blackberry desktop software.msi) and installation stops androlling back process.
    after that i read all the forums related 1316 error but as now no any solutions. I can't install this software to mycomputer.
    here is the list of the procedures i followed so far, but i would like to remind after each installation attempt, Iuninstalled together with complete uncleaning process including with registires and all "research in motions"folders that created during installations and countless reboots.
    here is the folders I deleted each time:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\research in motions
    C:\ProgramData\research in motions
    C:\Program Files\research in motions
    in some forum manetioned another folder might be created under C:\users\****\appdata\roaming\ -but I dont found any RIM file or folder in this section.

    here is the resolutions that i followed so far.
    1.) all 4 resolutions explained in Article ID: KB04272
    2.) used windows installer clean up app. for uninstall.
    3.) i placed "desktop software.msi file inside of the C:\windows\installer folder.
    4.) i run setup.exe file from extracted zip file.
    5.) deleted registries from registry editor by searching ne by one.
    6.) registered alt.dll for re-installs.

    as I can see from the forum pages error 1316 is problem for who want to uninstall software. i just want to install latest desktop software and use my new phone and sync my contacts.
    can you please check and let me know if you have any experience how to overcome about this problem ?

    Welcome to bercakir


    Go into Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features.

    Look for BlackBerry Desktop Software.

    Delete BlackBerry Desktop Software.

    Once it has completed uninstalling, re-boot the computer.

    Download BlackBerry - Desktop Software for PC (Windows 7 users).

    Once you have completely installed Desktop Software, now plug in your BlackBerry Bold 9788 via USB cable, and wait until the Desktop Manager installs the proper drivers, and all other files properly (do not remove the USB cable).

    You will see a pop up from the BlackBerry Software to configure your Bold 9788, and when done, close off the window.

    Now, you should be ready to use your BlackBerry device to backup, sync, restore, delete, update, etc...

    If you need further help, please post back here, and one of us will respond back to you as soon as possible.

    dear Grimreaper,
    thanks for your reply. but as I mentioned i am not able install in anyway always get same error code during installation, which is error 1316. un-installed previous version (DM 5.0.1) without any hassle but there is no way to install desktop software in any version(v6.1, v6.0.2, v6.01)
    what do you think about this ?

    I have read your issue very carefully, and this is the problem.

    The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is not the problem, when you download this software for your BlackBerry Bold 9788, can you please download it to the desktop.

    Computer> Local Disk (C: ) > Users> xxxxx > Desktop

    Also, Error 1316 is an error that occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Windows\Installer\ ??

    A common error message when trying to reinstall/upgrade a software program, in this case, the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

    Delete and.or clean up any traces of BlackBerry Desktop Manager, re-boot, and download the file to the desktop.

    Install from the desktop, and I am very certain you will not have this issue anymore.

    i just tried as you instructed but still having same error. it is unbelievable. i can install any program to my computer but except this Blackberry software, how this happen i really don't understand.
    any possible more suggestions ???

    Ok lets try this again. I realize that you have already followed KB04272, but lets try something similar.
    1. Do a system restore on your PC BEFORE you removed DM 5.0 ( if you can't do that boot to last know good configuration F8 before your computer boots)
    2. Perform a manual removal of DM 5.0 as outlined in KB02206 (make sure you reboot)
    3. Download and install the latest Desktop Software
    4. Rename "610_b038_multilanguage.exe" to "610_b038_multilanguage.zip"
    5. Extract the files into a seperate folder
    6. Copy & paste "BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi" into "C:\WINDOWS\Installer"
    7. Run the "Setup.exe" from the extracted "610_b038_multilanguage.zip"

    dear ice, here is what happened, i followed all your instructions, after run the "setup.exe" after while this time i get error 1311, which you can find the screen shot for the details.

    so i thought i could copy&paste "data1.cab" folder inside the C:\windows\installer\
    i did and hit the retry button, than i got another error which is 1334 screen shot is here:

    but actually this file is exist inside of the data1.cab file:

    Also have you tried installing under another account on your computer? Are you logged on as Administrator or a user that has admin rights? Try creating a new user account and giving that user admin rights. Then remove the desktop manager using Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily . Then re download and install the BlackBerry Desktop software.

    bercakir , as per ice suggestion, re download BlackBerry Desktop Software, make sure it is for the correct operating system, (PC, Mac, other) and the most important, make sure the file has completely downloaded.

    If not completely downloaded, it can certainly cause corrupt installs, just like the issue you're facing now.

    Is it a coincidence that we are seeing all these errors?

    I see have posted the exact same issue to the thread Can't install BlackBerry Desktop Manager this morning, and if you haven't noticed the last post to that thread was over 1.5 years ago.

    We are trying to help you here, I don't think you want to confuse yourself further, and delay a resolution to your issue(s).

    dear ice, after 2days working about it but sadly there is no change in my situation. i did everything as you mentioned above, re-downloaded many times install package, installed into new user account with admin right, installed revo uninstaller pro and used it. in my computer tright now there is 6 different registry cleaner and unsitaller program. but same errors comes out. i am using this phone for mainly business purposes, i have over 1000 contacts in my outlook address book and simply can't sync with my new mobile. i have ipad, i am using itunes without any problem, i have nokia phone, i am using nokia pc suite without any problem. i upgraded, uninstalled, installed these programs many times, i am using my PC actively for installing and uninstalling other programs, but can't understand how this blackberry software creates such a persistent problem...

    yes error code is always same, "1316"
    also tried to clean boot and disabled startup items and service items excluding microsoft services but still same errror...

    is there any otherway to sync my outlook contacts besides desktop software ?
