    Install Problems with Windows 7

    A friend of mine is trying to install Desktop Manager on Windows 7.

    He originally had Desktop Manager version 4.7 installed and tried upgrading to 5.0 but the installation failed. From there he uninstalled 4.7 entirely and tried to perform a clean install of 5.0. We went in and removed entries in the registry but are still having problems installing any version of Desktop Manager.

    We have tried various versions from the RIM site as well as from discs (4.7, 5.0, 5.0.1) and various methods of installing.

    Here's what we've tried:
    - Compatability mode
    - Running as Administrator
    - Safe mode
    - Creating a new user account

    Every time we run the installer, we get an error saying that the installation has been interrupted and was unsuccessful (see attachment).

    Has anyone eles encountered this problem? Any ideas?

    Good question - yes, we have tried rebooting many times.

    Are you using the same installation file each time? Or have you downloaded the file from RIM each time?

    We have used different installation files. We've tried the same installation file a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the version of Desktop Manager that we're trying to install seeing as all versions (4.7, 5.0, and 5.0.1) are all giving the same error message.

    We even tried installing right off of the 4.7 disc that Verizon gave us with the phone... no luck.

    I don't know if this will help or not, BUT have you tried XP VM? Most of the reports I'm seeing online say there are more issues with actually connecting your Berry to the PC than installing the DM. Your issue is not the most common.

    I would try installing the XP Virtual Machine on your PC and see if that helps.

    Sorry I haven't responded on this for a while, we're trying to tackle this problem again. We have tried XP VM, no luck there. Any other ideas?

    You are still fighting this battle??? WOW...ok...let's start from scratch. You've installed Win7 32bit or 64bit? And is this the full version or a RTM or Beta copy?
