Exactly one week ago, BBM launched officially as a cross platform instant messaging client for both Android and iOS, gaining 10 million new users in a short span of 24 hours. Apparently, the numbers are still coming in and BlackBerry may soon see 100 million users world wide.
Interest is still strong despite many nay-sayers proclaiming that BBM would be a dead fish out of water once the initial curiosity spike subsided. According to search giant Yahoo!, interest in BBM has taken off the charts. More specifically, searches for "BBM for iPhone" have reached a staggering 4754% higher than normal, while searches for "BBM for Android" cannot be contained by any worldly means.
A few additional tidbits of data from Yahoo!:
- Who is #BBM-ing? Over the past week, 67% of searches for [bbm] on @Yahoo come from men @BlackBerry
- .@Yahoo users are excited to use the #BBM app! Searches for [bbm for iPhone] are 3x higher than searches for [bbm android] @BlackBerry
It's definitely refreshing to see that there is still a place for BBM in folk's app trays. Keep spreading the love, and continue sharing your PINs. And like LL Cool J would say, "don't call it a comeback!"
