    Besides Thorsten Heins, some of the other biggest names at RIM spoke at the keynote at BlackBerry Jam Americas 2012 - Alec Saunders, Don Lindsay, and Christopher Smith.     I figured it out. Under settings/keyboard the Keypress Pop-up was set to off.
