There is a lot of buzz going on today since the rumor has spread that Twitter will be adding a Instagram-like photo filter feature to it's website. The Times reported that "in the coming months, Twitter plans to update its mobile applications to introduce filters for photos that will allow people to share altered images on Twitter and bypass Instagram."
This feature would be a major hit to Instagram on Facebook, as Twitter users could bypass Facebook altogether to get the photo features that they love about Instagram. It will be interesting to see where this would go, and whether Twitter plans on expanding such a feature into more of a community. I know Twitter has been very careful to over-bloat their site. Their main success has been on simplicity.
that Instagram's CEO, Kevin Systrom, said he has no problem with Twitter adding filters, saying; "I don't think that in anyway threatens Instagram because Instagram is a community and not a filter app."
I'm sure if this feature is put in place, we will see it implemented in the Twitter for BlackBerry native app, as well as many other apps for BlackBerry. I for one would love to see this being a regular Twitter user. And being that BlackBerry currently doesn't have an Instagram app, I'm sure it would be welcomed to the many BlackBerry tweeps out there.
