Just a couple of months ago, we told you about the sudden resignation of Sunil Dutt, the managing director of India for BlackBerry. That came at a time when the BlackBerry Z10 was being introduced to India and was reported to be selling incredibly well. Well, after searching for close to two months, BlackBerry has named Sunil Lalvani as their new Managing Director for India.
Mr. Lalvani has been with BlackBerry since 2009, heading the Indian Enterprise sales division. Before joining BlackBerry, Mr. Lalvani had worked for such companies as Cisco, Nokia and Global Telesystems.
In a statement on his appointment as head of Managing Director, Mr Lalvani said, "BlackBerry is driving the adoption of its next generation of mobile computing platform with BlackBerry 10, and India is a key market for growth of the powerful platform. As I take up this new role, our focus will be to drive differentiated solutions for consumers and enterprise customers in India, providing a unique mobility experience that harnesses the full range of the BlackBerry offering.”
Mr. Lalvani has inherited the Managing Director position at a very critical time. With the launch of the BlackBerry Q10 in India and the Z10 already on sale for a few months and doing very well, Lalvani is taking command of a ship that has seemed to have righted itself and could be in for smooth seas.
