With cellphone unlocking becoming a hot topic of debate in the U.S., it's nice to see our neighbors to the north taking a bit of a more reasonable approach to the issue. According to a Rogers email sent to MobileSyrup, their new unlocking policy, which we've known about since last month, will go into effect on Thursday, March 28th. This policy will allow customers to unlock their devices for 90 days after activation.
"Our customers have told us they want more choice and flexibility in the way they use their wireless devices. We’re listening. Effective March 28, Rogers is changing our unlocking policy so that customers can unlock their Rogers wireless device sooner. Customers currently on a term commitment will be able to have their device unlocked after 90 days."
This new policy will also affect Rogers' sub-brands Fido and Chatr. Unlocking your device through Rogers won't be cheap though. Apparently, a $50 price tag will be attached. Will you be going through Rogers to unlock your Z10? Let us know in the comments below!
