BlackBerryOS.com - Roam Mobility U.S. Voice & Data Roaming Service Officially Launched
  • Roam Mobility U.S. Voice & Data Roaming Service Officially Launched

Whenever I travel South of the border to the lovely United States of America, I'm always haunted with the idea of a ridiculously high data roaming bill for my FourSquare, Google Maps & BBM escapades. On my recent trip to New York City for BBMUglySweater, I racked up a Sir Robert Borden to my bill in roaming charges (for those of you outside of Canada, that's a 100-dollar bill) in merely 24 hours.

To my surprise, I was introduced today to a newly launched Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), aptly named Roam Mobility. On Monday, they announced their U.S. voice and data roaming service in partnership with T-Mobile. Their roaming packages claim to offer Canadians “price reductions of up to 99%”.

As you'd expect, Roam isn't in the handset business. They currently only carry two devices: a low-end handset called “Breeze” that retails for $39.95, & a mobile hotspot for $129.95.

Where i think Roam will most likely make most of their profit is from customers traveling to the US and activating on of their roaming plans: Talk + Text + Data plans start at $14.95 for 1-day (includes unlimited talk/text & 100 MB of data) and go up to $99.95 for 30 days (includes unlimited talk/text & 2 GB data).

As you'd expect, I've already pre-ordered two SIM Cards for a low price of $19.95
