  • Roam Mobility Announces Steep Price Cuts To Roaming In USA

In my infrequent visits South of the border to do business, I've always found my Canadian mobile carrier would charge me hundreds of dollars to simply use my device data while travelling through the USA. Even with the recent price cuts from Telus, Bell and Rogers I'm still finding their pricing still to be overpriced and slightly ridiculous.

Last year, I was introduced to Roam Mobility, a roaming service provider for Canadians visiting the U.S. (operating on T-Mobile's network) who offers low-cost roaming plans for those who want to stay connected while traveling across the American states. Their pricing at that time was already leaps and bounds ahead of the Big Three, but this morning they've up their game once again to bury the competition!

Roam Mobility Announces Steep Pricing Cuts and More Data for Canadians Visiting the United States

Company cuts Data Only plan pricing by 50 percent and triples data allowance on Talk+Text+Dataplans in time for holiday travel season

Vancouver B.C. (Oct. 17, 2013) – Roam Mobility, the leading independent provider of roaming service for Canadians visiting the U.S., announced today that the company has cut pricing on Data Only plans by 50 percent and has increased the data allowance on Talk+Text+Data plans from 100 MB to 300 MB per day. The modified pricing structure comes as welcome news for nearly 19 million Canadians who travel to the U.S. every year.

“Our new pricing and data allowance is truly the best deal for any Canadian travelling to the USA,” said Emir Aboulhosn, founder and SVP Business Development of Roam Mobility. “For $3.95 per day you get unlimited talk, text and 300 MB. That’s 50 percent lower and six times more data than roaming packages from other Canadian carriers.”

Under the new pricing structure, Roam Mobility offers Data Only plans for as cheap as a penny per MB, depending on the amount of data purchased. A new 300 MB data plan that is valid for three days has been added for $7.95, and the prices of 500MB, 1GB, 2GB and 5GB plans have been reduced by as much as 50 percent. The plans aim to serve data-hungry travellers with tablets and smartphone devices.

The Talk+Text+Data plan, currently offered for $3.95, now provides travellers with 300 MB of data per day instead of 100 MB. In addition, the 3 day plan has increased to 900MB, the 7 day to 2GB, 14 day to 4GB and 30 day to 9GB. All Talk+Text+Data plans still include unlimited talk, text and free long-distance calls to Canada.

“The average person uses roughly 1 to 1.5 GB per month, or approximately 35 to 50 MB per day,” explained Aboulhosn. “From light to very heavy users, this new data allowance gives all Canadians an extraordinary buffer.”

To take advantage of Roam Mobility plans, travellers simply purchase the Roam SIM Card, compatible with any unlocked GSM phone, smartphone or tablet sold in Canada, or the dual-SIM Breeze travel phone or the Liberty Mobile Hotspot. Roam Mobility products are available at more than 1,000 locations throughout Canada including convenience stores, airports, duty-free stores, electronics retailers and travel stores.
