• RIM's Online Scheduling App Tungle.me sunsets, Offers Alternatives To Customers

Starting in 2011, RIM began making a series of strategic acquisitions to help them build what we now know to be BlackBerry 10. Amongst these were the contact managing application Gist; and online scheduling tool Tungle.me.

We have slowly started to see how each plays part of the enhanced BlackBerry experience. It may already be very obvious but Gist has greatly contributed to the BB10 contacts app while Tungle.me has tackled the BB10 calendar app. However, we've also recently seen each of these products stop offering their core service as a sacrifice to focus more on developing the core BlackBerry tools. Earlier this year, contact managing application Gist announced they would be closing their online portal and offered alternatives to their online application. Recently, online scheduling and collaboration tool Tungle.me also announced consolidating their online service in favor of core BlackBerry 10 development.

The announcement posted around mid September said:

All of our new responsibilities within RIM are very exciting; however, it hasn’t left much time for innovation on the core Tungle product over the past year, as we’re sure you have noticed. To make the most of our new focus, we have sadly decided it is time to shut down the standalone Tungle service.
As an alternative, the company has recommended competing online scheduling tool Doodle.

Additionally, in an email that went out to tungle.me users to remind them of the termination of the service due to take place on Dec 3, vCita was offered as another alternative to Tungle.me. Interestingly enough, the email did not come from tungle.me themselves, but rather from the vCita team themselves.

vCita is offering similar service to what Tungle.me offered through a "Free Forever Plan." And for those who heavily rely on online schedule meeting, they are even throwing in 3 free months of their premium plan.

If you are a Tungle.me user, be sure to check out both services to make sure you are not left out in the cold this coming Monday.
