  • RIM securing deals with record labels for BBM Music release

A couple of weeks ago, upon the release of the new BBM 6, many users noticed that the "Show What I'm Listening to" option was gone. We reported that this way due to the fact that RIM is actually in the works for an independent Music app called BBM Music. Well today, a new report has come out that helps make more sense of this. One of the biggest issues with a major manufacturer having a music sharing app, is how record labels would react to it.

According to CNET's report, RIM has already signed a deal with at least one of four major record labels to allow BBM Music to function without problems. Deals with other major labels could be done within the next couple of weeks. As we mentioned before, this will be a paid subscription app ($4.99/month) that will first hit the Beta Zone by invite only this coming week (if it doesn't get pushed back again) and eventually get released to the public. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
