  • RIM Partners With Ontario Government To Help Laid Off Workers

The Ontario government announced today that they have teamed up with Research In Motion, Communitech (a local technology hub), Wilfrid Laurier University and the University Of Waterloo, to help recently laid off tech workers. The new program will assist laid off workers with job placement, job counseling and provide seats in the universities business and entrepreneur education programs.

Recently RIM laid off up to 2,000 employees globally, so this partnership shows that RIM is concerned not only about their former employees but the whole Waterloo region in general. This partnership comes just in time because of more pending layoffs numbering around 3,000 coming soon.

Any way you slice it, the news isn't the best but providing help to the recently laid off is a step to keep the local tech region's economy from becoming a quagmire.
