  • RIM Announces The BlackBerry 10K Built for BlackBerry Program - Spoiler It's Not That Easy

One of the big announcements which was made in BlackBerry Jam Orlando was that developers who made apps for BlackBerry 10 which hit sales of $1,000 within 12 month of the app launch will be guaranteed $10,000 revenue from RIM.

Today from RIM's developer blog, RIM announced the official rules which this process will take place. Combing through the terms and conditions, there are definitely a lot of rules that make this process one that is definitely not something that will be an easy task. In addition to hitting the $1k in sales benchmark by yourself, the apps need to follow strict UI and BlackBerry 10 guidelines and use certain principles that are BlackBerry 10 specific including having your own Privacy Policy. These guidelines seems a bit strict for independent developers who may not have the resources to write their own privacy policy and may be able to write good quality apps without using any of the service integration tools that is required (for example even an app like Angry Birds or Blaq would fail to meet the criteria just due to the service integration rules).

I hope RIM relaxes these rules a bit to further encourage and help developers out as they support this new BlackBerry 10 platform.
