Now that I write for BlackBerryOS, I've started using the Docs to Go
app on my BlackBerry Q10 more than I used to. I've used Word on my work computer and I've used WordPerfect on my home computer. Typing articles on a smartphone shouldn't be exactly the same but it should be similar.
When I was studying for an exam that I needed to take for work, I used my phone for taking notes. It was much more convenient than lugging a laptop around. I was also using Docs to Go on the last of the BlackBerry Bold series, the 9900. For this article I'm writing it on the Bold's first replacement, the Q10.
The first thing that I noticed is how much I miss the tool belt when I'm editing my document. The touch screen is responsive, but not as quick as the trackpad. I'm sure if I owned a BlackBerry Classic I'd like the app a lot more, but it still beats lugging around a laptop.
The second thing that I noticed was that I couldn't insert a photo into the document. Not a deal breaker, but a picture is worth a thousand words, even if it doesn’t add to the word count.
The last thing that I noticed was the bullets. There are quite a few bullets that you can use with Word or WordPerfect, but only one type and style for Docs to Go? What if I want to have a numbered list? That was a feature on Docs to Go on my trusty 9900, but not on the Q10?
I'm sure that there will be an update that will add features to Documents to Go that were lost when the 9900 was removed from the lineup, I'm just not sure when.
Do you use Documents to Go
, or are you using a new word processor for your device? Sound off in the comments below!
